I am thinking of signing up for Billpoint because of their free listing promotion......I only take Paypal right now. (plus checks and money orders) ~ but lately more people have requested billpoint and the current offer sounds so nice.
Do you as sellers like billpoint and did your sales increase when you added it as a payment option? How quickly do you get your money from Billpoint?

I LOVE Billpoint. And my money hits my bank account within 2-3 days.

I use Billpoint and Paypal, but prefer Billpoint over Paypal.

The daily (Automatic) electronic transfer to my account is what I like over Paypal.

I use both because I want my customers to have whatever means they are confortable with to send me their payment.

The less restriction on the customer you have the more sales you will get. Here is a link to the Billpoint page that will answer your questions:

Accept Credit card through Billpoint is dangerous, you don't know buyer¡¯s billing address, and too many cheaters in eBay.

We've been using Billpoint for a long time and I like it much better than PayPal. There's no comparison. We've never had a problem.

There's a potential for chargebacks with Billpoint but with PayPal you have the potential to have your entire account frozen and having customers sending payments to a frozen account is a nightmare...

Hi outoftheblue,

Account restrictions are extremely rare and require that the user violate a condition of the terms of use.

We have had the ability to isolate specific transactions,in the event of a charge back or a dispute, for quite some time now and an email is sent to the user advising them how to check on what transaction it is and how to refute it (what kind of documentation is needed to qualify under the Seller Protection Program---this is our program to eliminate liability for charge backs as long as certain guidelines are followed by the seller).

I'll say this about Paypal and Billpoint. I've used both without any problems and have had both since their inception.

I do however because of all the bad hype about Paypal empty my account as soon as it contains $100.00 or more.

In 2 1/2 years i've never had a chargeback. Guess i've been lucky in that respect.

Both make it so much easier than the old money order and check routine. I wish all of my customers would use these two services.

About 50% of my customers use one of the two and I guess more would if I didn't state in my auction text that I don't hold checks for clearance. I've only had one bad check and it was made good with a money order to include the service charge.

I use Paypal, but I just signed up with Billpoint. I thought I was covered under for chargebacks at Paypal when I purchased insurance for packages, but though I covered leagally, it does squat for me on Paypal.

To be protected with Paypal, it would cost me too much in shipping charges, which would hurt my sales.

Since this is the case, it makes no sense for me to use Paypal over billpoint. Hopefully I will be able to switch over fully to billpoint.

I LOVE BillPoint!

I LOVE that it encourages my buyers to pay through them since they don't have to REGISTER to pay me!

I LOVE that I can now take checks and they clear in an average of 5 DAYS!

As for it increasing sales?

YOU BET!

The ability to accept additional forms of payment is ALWAYS a PLUS!

I also get a WHOLE lot less procrastination over payment with my customers!

My customers used to mostly opt for Money Order before and it was like pulling teeth to get the payment!

And with these last two promotions, I've noticed a marked increase in customers!

Did I say I LOVE it?

Both are good options - used them for a couple of years.

Comparing fees is another issue. Billpoint charges for transfer, etc.

They both deposit in a timely fashion.

At the end of last year, even though there were a far greater number of Paypal (almost 4 to 1), the Billpoint fees were on a relative basis - only slightly less.

We hope people use Paypal - cost us a lot less, but we offer both.

As a buyer I love Billpoint.
I only used paypal once, and since then paypal asked twice to verify my bank account. How many times do I have to verify?
Not to mention all the problems I hear about with paypal, I won't even try using it again. Billpoint is easy and straight-forward. I've used it three times and so far no problems. Someone mentioned on another post about not getting the buyers address. I thought on the Billpoint invoice it includes the shipping address. Well, at least on my invoice receipts it does.

With paypal, its all the extra steps you have to take that becomes annoying after awhile. Transfer money to here, retransfer there, etc...
I would definitely buy from a seller who accepts Billpoint.

What happens with BillPoint if I, as a seller, receive funds that were made with a stolen credit card? Do I have to give the money back to BillPoint?

Pick the correct answer.

1. The let you keep it.
2. They withdraw the amount in dispute plus a $10.00 chargeback fee.

Are you an optimist or a realist?

The main reason, as a seller, that I use PayPal and not Billpoint is that, to use Billpoint, you NEED to have a Credit Card, so, if your between the millions of people who don't want to, don't need to or can't have a Credit Card, you're screwed.

I take both billpoint and paypal and have never had a problem with either one as a seller. But as a buyer that is a different story. 2 months ago I bought an item off ebay and payed with billpoint. When I didn't get the package in over two weeks, I contacted the seller to find out what was wrong. The problem turned out to be that billpoint had somehow switched all of my shipping information (name, phone number and address) with another person's and that is where my package was shipped. I am in NY and this other person was in canada. Luckily her phone number was in my account information in place of mine so I could call her. She returned my package to the seller and I eventually got it after paying for shipping a second time. Billpoint never did reply to me to explain how this information got switched in the first place. This has made me alittle leary of billpoint. If my shipping address could be switched with someone else's I have to wonder if any of my other information (credit card or banking info especially) will someday be switched.

As in most situations, it depends what you sell.

I have never offered PayPal, and have quit offering Billpoint on most items. I've noticed no decrease in bids, or sales.

Online CC payemnts are great for buyers, but leave sellers open to numerous problems, not to mention the fees involved.

After reading where a seller using Billpoint had a charge back 5 months after the auction ended, I decided I wasn't going to open myself up to that kind of B.S.

Here is my viewpoint as a seller and a buyer.

As a seller I love both PayPal and Billpoint. Buyers pay FAST - I never have to send a reminder to an electronic payer. I have noticed more and more buyers are using Billpoint now a compared to 6 months ago.

As a bidder I rarely bid on anything if the seller does not offer PayPal or Billpoint payments. It has to be a VERY unique one-of-a-kind item for me to bid if the seller takes checks only. (As for a money order - forget it.)

Interesting, perhaps my items are VERY unique?

I was averaging approx 20% in online payments, the other 80% still wanted to pay via a check or MO. Even though I state in my TOS & EOA email that personal checks are accepted, I still get numerous MO's.

Go figure?

I still offer Billpoint for some of my lower $ items, but once it gets over $100 I refuse to screw with CC's.

BTW -I know an eBay seller that moves 25-40 K per month of antiques & collectibles, and he has never accepted online payments.

Hi kellyb1,

You are protected from charge back liability if you follow the program (some sellers make the buyer pay for the delivery confirmation).

Most payment services offer no protection or charge a charge back fee (in addition to removing the funds) even if the person can prove the item was delivered.
