I contacted Paypal and have not heard anything back, but they charged both my credit card and checking account for an item I purchased using their service. How can that be? The credit card and checking account are with different banks. In other words, the card is not a debit card tied to the checking account. Could I have done something to make this happen? When you first go to pay for something it comes up with e-check and you're supposed to click a link to change to credit card, which is what I did. Do you think there is a glitch and it's doing both? It doesn't show up in my Paypal account twick though. Any ideas? Anyone else having this problem, or am I just lucky or stupid?
Thank goodness it's only 11.10, but now I'm sort of leary of using them anymore. I have used them since and haven't noticed a problem, but the last time was on the 21st of March, so I guess I'll have to keep an eye on both statements!

There is one possibility I can think of.
When you send an eCheck (that's the default) your credit card is "charged" until the check clears (or so that's my understanding). They wording is something like "a hold will be placed on your cc until the check clears". That is why I refuse to send an eCheck. They are charging my card AND then drafting from my bank and there is ALWAYS the possibility of what has happened to you happening!
I cannot understand why they do that since a seller will be sent a message that an eCheck has been sent and they are advised to not ship the item until the funds are shown as cleared and transfered to their account! So if sellers don't ship until the funds clear (as instructed by PP) there should be no need to place a "hold" on my credit card until the eCheck clears! If it doesn't clear the seller will be advised and he just won't ship!
Looks to me like PP forgot to take the hold off your card!!!

Well that makes sense IF I used an e-check, but I didn't, I USED the credit card and it says so in my confirming emails from PP - they charged both my card and my bank account. Just can't figure out why, and noone's available to speak with on the weekends.

Hi, Just click into aw partner service and ask for paypaldamon. He can help you. There is a board there just for paypal. Lots of luck.
Sorry to hear of your trouble. I am not in this weekend, but I do check in---
It sounds like you used the INSTANT ACH option and not the echeck option (or pay with a credit card). There is a link for more payment options on the send money screen and there is the possibility you may not have clicked on the proper one.
Instant ACH is a feature that initiates the bank transfer (typically a 3-5 business day wait for money to clear in), but makes it available immediately (for immediate payment) by securing it against the credit card on file (which could be a debit card). This places a hold on the card in the event that the incoming ach fails.
I can check on the transaction Monday for you, but I think this might give you an idea of what happened.

Okay - but I still don't understand after over 3 weeks why the charge is on BOTH the card and my checking account. I don't like paying for things twice and I'm sure you can understand this. Until this is cleared up, I don't think I'll be using Paypal to purchase anything. If I do HAVE to, I'll take extra care to make a mental note of the procedures I take.
I do know this, when the screen pops up that looks like a "check", there is a link to "change payment options", (I think that's the wording). I click on that and pick the credit card, not the bank account.
If that's not the correct procedure could someone explain to me what is?
