You know ... that be-all and and end-all that would kick in when the main site crashed so there wouldn't be anymore downtime?
Oh wait ... let me guess ... it kicks in 55 minutes after the main crash ... just intime to avoid eBay having to honor their outage policies.

Hi Saffy,
Actually, eBay doesn't have to honor its auction extension policy until two hours of a "hard outage." A hard outage means that not even a single bidder can use the system.
As for the hot back-up, I think there was really only one extended outage in the past six months or so ... The others were of a 15-30 minute duration.

I trust you realize that is no consolation for those (myself included) who had auctions close during the 45 minute outage?
I also recall reading that within the past couple of months eBay amended their outage policy to incorporate something for outages between 1 and 2 hours ... I'd love to provide a link for you, but they don't make it easy to locate that info.
