The vast majority of items out there that are created to be, and are marketed as, "collector's" this or that....are a SCAM!

VERY FEW things that are created to BE collectors items are EVER really worth anything much---especially in the long run.

Those TV Guide 4-sets are the biggest, most insulting to come down the pike in a while.

Too bad the sheep out there don't recognize this. They're toooo busy buying into it!

A collectable is defiined as something that can be collected. Period.

So something like stars (the ones in the sky) are not collectable, but virtually every tangible object on the planet earth is collectable.

Now for some unknown reson, the poster of this thread has leaped to the assumption that when something is described as collectable, it actually means it will increase in value. Not so. I know people who collect things with no concern over thier future value.

Lotzamags; Is their something wrong? Perhaps you need some help? Your lasts posts are full of negativity and very hostile towards others. I think you need a time out, a nap, or perhaps a nice vacation?

unkniown:

By your logic(?) anything and everything is a collectable.

Sloooooow down and think a little.

Obviously, I am refering to items that are so called "hot button" collectables; Elvis stuff and so on.

When a company markets something as "collectable" they are doing so to incite a buying frenzy based on potential future demand and/or value.

...or did you just fall off a turnip truck?

"...or did you just fall off a turnip truck."

Well, THAT's original! Haven't heard that since my Uncle Harry, a farmer, used it something like 35 years ago.

Best excuse for a thread about to be locked...

Perhaps I can help you. You seem to be on the red rag, so perhaps you should refrain from posting until things, how shall I say, clear up.

Acually by true definition an item is not a collectable until it is 10 years old. Anything newer then that is called a "desirable" Once an item reaches 20 years or older it is considered a "vintage collectible" until it finally becomes an antique. You are right about things being made to be collectible will never go up in value, most of it is junk.
It is the items that were never thought to be collected that continue to increase in value. Like toys that were played with or that potato masher in the kithen. I always stashed away things like transistor radios and rotary phones when I saw end was near for them. Remember, today's vintage collectible is tomorrow's antique.

Lotzamags; Were you an abused child? Or are you just a miserable lonely person? If you had any class at all or knowledge about americana antiques then you would perhaps know what you were referring to. But since all you seem to know about is Kmart JUNK then that is exactly the kind of response I would expect.

Are you clueless or what.

Re-read what I wrote and if you STILL don't get it, then you deserve to wallow in your own ignorance.

lotzamags, your comment to redragrabbit is crude and disgusting. I hope you are zapped pronto, and at the rate you are going I have no doubt you will be. Good riddance.
