Ebay's latest outtage lasted for 15 minutes, a period of time when several of my auctions ended, and of course, weren't able to be bid on. A earlier post claimed that you have to honor the winning bidder and sell the item no matter what the circumstances were with Ebay, and regardless if the auction was accessible or not. OK,if that is the case, let me ask those who know more than I a couple of questions. I can't find anywhere in Ebay's rules that deal with outtages that last less than an hour. Do they in theory refund the costs associated with auctions that ended within a time period when they weren't accessible no matter how short the outtage? Second, I certainly feel like adding the text that I have seen others put in their auction ads, that usually read something like: " If Ebay has an outtage near when my auctions end, or while they are ending.. etc., etc." Essentially writing their own rules that cover circumstances that Ebay doesn't acknowledge or cover specifcally in their rules, regarding outtages. It goes without saying that many auctions receive the most action right near the end. Tonight's down times are a prime example of outtages during a busy time, that although they don't reach an hour in length, hurt both potential bidders and sellers. So, the question is, does or has anyone used their own rules sucessfully in dealing with completed auctions and/or auction winners, when an Ebay outtages such as tonight's, may very well have affected the final values?
