Good morning!

Are you the author of that article? Is "The Auction Examiner" your site?

Quote from your article:

"If eBay persist on asking seller to prove their overcharges, what can sellers do?"

Are you aware of the announcement on the AB by eBay as follows:

User: [email protected]
Date: 03/24/01
Time: 19:21:43 PST

**** Relist Credits ****
On Friday afternoon (March 23, 2001), we posted an explanation of a technical problem that caused credits for eligible relisted items listed between March 14, 2001 and March 22, 2001 to not automatically post to many sellers' accounts. In actuality, the problem began on March 15, 2001 and was resolved by noon on March 20, 2001, and we apologize for the incorrect dates in the earlier post. In addition, the memo on the Account Status pages indicating which items were relists was not being displayed through Friday.

Both of these issues have been resolved, and we are trying to find a way to automatically apply the appropriate credits for our sellers. While this is normally a relatively simple task, the nature of the problem which caused the relist credits to not post in the first place is similarly making the retroactive identification of eligible relists extremely difficult. This is why we posted yesterday that we needed sellers to write in with their credit requests.

However, in retrospect, we do realize the amount of time it would take our sellers to gather this information, and we want to do everything in our power to save you this trouble. Therefore, over the next several
days, we will be working with our database experts to try to find the best way to correct this problem.

We request that you do not write in for manual credits at this time, and we have removed the earlier post which references this request from our Announcements Board.

We also ask for your patience while we attempt to resolve this issue to the satisfaction of our seller community, and apologize for the frustration and concern this has caused you. Please look for another post on this board in the next few days for updates regarding the resolution of this issue and the application of the appropriate credits to your account.

Regards,
eBay

Just an FYI

Hi heartsong/eBay:

I think is great that now, eBay start taking responsability for their actions and errors. It took eBay long enough to take responsibility.

I fully agree that eBay should and must automatically make the necessary corrections to resolve the problem. After all, it is not the sellers' errors that caused the problem.

Is the estimate of the overcharges too low? or is it on the ballpark?

If eBay doesn't correct the overcharges without making their customers do all the work, I for one, will file a credit card fraud report. I think if they had not already been told by some sellers that they where going to file fraud charges, you would have never seen ebay back down on this one.

To ask individual sellers to do hours of extra bookkeeping in order to claim $10 worth of overcharges is ridiculous. Rudy, I agree, eBay would have been content to sweep this under the carpet. My guess, eBay only changed their tack because this story slipped out to the media.

Your are probable right. The national press however also helped. Presently, there is a small revolt going on at eBay with sellers advocating an April 1, 2001, Fool's Day-off from eBay as a result of the poor service at eBay.

The Boards are full of that type of postings.

eBay also realizes that by asking sellers to submit errors, it opens Pandora's box to fraud as well.

Ebay also knows that if they keep 4 million dollars that isn't theirs for 2 months they can collect a great deal of interest.

Where's the rush to complain about bad auctions due to the bugs? I'm actually surprised that people have become numb.

Would you *PLEASE* stop promoting your OWN WEBSITE passing off your links as independent third party news!

I'm sick of seeing this promotion of your web site and so-called news.

Clearly you have an axe to grind with eBay, and that is your right, and to be clear, I'm NOT defending them or their actions.

If you have an opinion to express here, feel free, but PLEASE don't pass it off as "news" and constantly promote your web site.

I believe you are in violation of the terms of use of AW by constantly promoting your own web site....Moderators???

I agree with Mr.Latenite. I too am tired of this Poster portraying their rants as 'news'.

Also, I wonder if the USMC is interested that someone is using their logo to promote a private business. There also may be some POV that the Marines have regarding the promotion of adult content wares utilizing the USMC insignia.

I will see what the originator says before contacting the USMC directly for their input. Please cite black letter regs in your reply.

Thank you
