The day over day increase you're referring to is part of a weekly fluction that's been typical at eBay for many months-- auction counts drop to a low on Monday, and rise throughout the week to a high on Sunday.

Actually, eBay's shown zero growth in auction counts for the past 3 months. Since January, eBay's auction count has fluctuated between 5.5 and 6.0 million- there is actually a slight downward trend right now.
