I am a seller but I am also a buyer. Now I realize that every seller does things "their way" but I am wondering what buyers think on this one.
When I click into an auction (obviously because the title has my attention) the first thing I like to see is a picture. Then if it looks interesting enough for me to purchase I read the description.
But I am finding now that with the longer TOS statements made by the sellers that at times I have to scroll down forever until I get to the picture way down at the bottom. At times it takes me past that big Power Seller button (first thing I see), then past all the Do's & Don't's and Click Here and E-mail Here and dancing bears and floating butterflies, etc.
At times the TOS is not properly separated from the description so it is extra work to find what I am looking for. For this reason I put most of my pictures first and then the description or pics on one side and the description on the other so viewers can see both at one time. Am I just a** backwards the way I do things? Please be kind.

There are lots of 'right' ways to do this. As long as the picture and description have much more prominance than the TOS, I'm happy to bid.

I'm with Bill on this, as long as the TOS doesn't become the main focus of the auction page, I don't much care where the pics are.

i prefer descriptions first - gives me something to do while i wait for the pix to download.
no:
- long tos
- butterflies, dancing bears, big powersellers logo, wallpaper, photos of your dog/cat/lizard
- really really NO music!

Picture first.
The picture is the focal point of 'most' auctions. It makes a much better presentation when it goes first.

I use a table, with the picture in the left column and the description in the right, so I guess I'm pleasing everyone

Check my closed auctions (abacaxi0. I do a 2-cell table with the description on the left and picture/s on the right. The TOS is at the bottom, although there is a link to it right above the start of the listing.
that way I please everybody, except the three buyers who like the TOS first.

I put my text first. While they are scanning the text my pictures can finish loading. I have text and picture in tables. The only thing I have after my pictures is my TOS.

Since pictures are worth a thousand words , I put my pictures first. That way if they don't like the looks of it, they don't have to go through the pains of reading about it.

I like placing picture on right and wrap the text around the picture. The table approach works, that tends to waste web space if the description is of any length.
I code the image dimensions with every picture, so the text does not adjust dramatically after the image loads. It improves the viewing experience of our dial-up buyers.
Thanks,

Mine have a description, then the picture, then below the picture the shipping all that are listed.
I like the picture first, but the image hosting place I use just works this way. I like it though.
Bidders can read a description, look at the picture, and if they don't like what they see, then they don't have to go any further.

I always put my description first and then my photos because I sometimes have quite a few and I figure the viewer can start reading the description while the photos load. My TOS is always located after the photos. I've been thinking that it might be a good idea for me to put a small photo or thumbnail at the beginning just before the description for those that like to see the picture first.

The reason I like the description first is that while the photo is loading it gradually lengthens the page. If the description is at the bottom, I have to keep scrolling down when another big chunk of picture loads (and it's easy to lose your place that way). For me, the picture is there to enhance the text/description, not the other way around.
Without eBay, I might have a real life...

I prefer to put the images at one side of the text. And I really dislike auctions with the picture at the bottom when *I* am looking around for stuff to buy.

Now using a table with pics to left, words on right, seems more eye pleasing than anything else I've had before this.
