Have you checked out WhatICollect.com? It seems kind of neat to me, though I haven't spent a lot of time on it yet.
There are different "communities" for just about any collectable imaginable. Might be a nice source of information.

I found this during my daily etour.com surfing. This is another neat site, you set up what kind of sites you would like to see, I have collectors, auctions, antiques in my preferences. You just hit the next button and it takes you to the next site, you can bookmark any of the sites you like. I earn free pizzas and other stuff just by surfing for 3 minutes a day.
