In the last week I have been to two library book sales, a book store going-out-of-business sale and, this morning, an estate sale where I found more books!

Books aren't even my main thing on ebay, but I've been having good luck with books lately and all of these seemed like such great deals that even if they don't sale on ebay or half.com, I'll just throw them in a garage sale.

But the problem is I now have bags and boxes of books scattered throughout the house! My husband is out of town until Sunday morning and I have to get these organized and stashed somewhere before then!

Anybody else have too much stuff and having trouble getting it organized?

I have close to 2000 books right now....it is a pain. I was using HB2 for a database, but got so tired of entering all the info, that I went to Radio Shack, picked up a free cue cat, downloaded a software called readerware and just started scanning the ISBN. Cut my time logging all the book in - added fields to the database for the venue where it's being sold and another to show status - sold or for sale or to read!

So much easier!

(I can even store my scans with it!)

Wow. I just downloaded the readerware software. Its great. Punching in isbn's by the dozen and creating a database. Can't wait to learn more about how I can use it. I will hit radio shack first thing in the morning to get the bar code reader.

Thanks, this is great.

What about the books without ISBN? How do you keep that organized?
I have mine sorted by title, but sometimes it takes a while to find the one that sold.
Cold sweat..... Oh, NOOoooo... I lost it, or I have sold it someplace else and forgot to remove it from the other site....

With readerware you can enter books into the database manually. You can also search by library of congress number. Anyway, I just got readerware last night, registered it already, and have been happily entering isbns. havent got the bar code reader yet. This should be a real god send for me. I have been using auction manager pro, and between hunting up duplicate items on that and inventory, basically reusing item descriptions when i get duplicate items has been a pain. now, once i enter an item into readerware, it has a comment field where i can write my item description, and with copy/paste back and forth, my listing chores should be much quicker and easier now, translating into more listings, more sales, more profits.

There is a God.

HomeBase2 was recently updated and now has ISBN lookup.

You can download it at www.abebooks.com

Sorry...didn't get back to this thread sooner.

The cue cat is a hand held device available free from radio shack. It scans the UPC codes from products. It has its own software with it that when you scan something, you get taken to that site on the net.

I didn't install the software that comes with it as it is one of those tracer things.
(Reads where you've been, etc)

The readerware software is a Godsend - $40 for the full version - you can test it 30 days for free - it lets you scan a bar code, or manually enter a list of ISBN's and then it searches multiple sites to bring back info about that book. Will also return a pic if available. For older books, it does have a library of congress lookup also. Usually though, I just manually enter the ones that don't have ISBN's.

It then loads the info into a database that can be sorted by any of the fields. I have set up different user fields so that I can sort them easily. I then export the columns I want into a tab dilineated document and plug the appropriate fields into my auction descriptions. Then I load into misterlister and away we go.....

This has saved me tons of time!

BTW - homebase2 is great, but the ISBN lookup is only available if you are an ABE seller. It also doesn't scan the ISBN's - you have to enter them.

My problem is that I buy lots of books like you, for resale. But I want to read them all first!

That radio shack code scanner sounds great...will look into it. Thanks for the info.

mzalez...I hate to admit it, but my stack of to read books is almost as big as the sell stack. They've taken over one room....(my son's now sleeping in the hall - it used to be his room)!

BTW - He's 21 and moved out, then back, then out, then back....so I don't feel bad about him being in the hallway - just wanted you all to know that I'm not that cruel!

JM Help me!
I got all excited after reading your information regarding the Cue Cat! Rushed out to get it hooked it up and can't figure out how to get it to scan the information into the program for an inventory like you mentioned you were doing? I have readerware but it won't go. HELP this novice please?

Is the light on the cue cat? (Just making sure that it's functional).

You have to click on the left handed book on the readerware software to enter a list - then scan really fast across the UPC code - sometimes it kind of sticks, but if you swipe it a couple of times, it should go.

It takes a little practice. If this doesn't help email me and I'll see if I can walk you through it!
