What does this mean on a copyright page of a book? Is it a first edition?

Second Printing Before Publication

That means that the publisher went back to press for an additional printing before the actual release date. The implication is that orders were far in excess of initial predictions.

So I guess this would not be a first edition, but a second. I was hoping maybe anything printed before the actual publication date would be a first edition. This book doesn't have a number line.

What you have is the SECOND PRINTING of the FIRST EDITION.

The fussy book collectors are only interested in first printings of first edition, usually.
