Does anyone post their auctions listings on the usenet? I know there are many newsgroups that are very specialized with collectors but do people actually look for items there?

Just call this idle curiosity.

Many newsgroups don't welcome spam and you can get in trouble real quick with your ISP if you abuse the usenet. I know I don't appreciate most of the spam on the usenet.

Unless the newsgroup has marketplace (or somthing real similar) in the name of the group, I wouldn't post to it unless I was wearing a full asbestos suit of armor (and wnated to leave my current ISP).

If the collector is following the newsgroup, they probably are already checking ebay.

I used to follow an antiques newsgroup that tried to prohibit this. The most annoying aspect was the number of messages that essentially said:

"I have some stuff on ebay right now; check it out".

Great sales pitch. I'll drop everything and go look right now.

There are two kinds of newsgroups ... the ones peiople READ, like rec.antiques (no ads welcomed, spammers are reported to eBay, and eBay will spank their hands) , and the ones no one reads, like rec.antiques.marketplace (allows ads, is nothing BUT ads, and worthless).

So either way it's a waste of time.
