Just picked up a sweet old (c.1880) jewel box, made of embossed leather, lined in silk and velvet. At some point a misguided former owner decided to reinforce the silk hinge with some thick gooey sticky tape. I was able to peel the tape off but it's left a sticky residue. Any thoughts on how to remove this from the leather outside and /or the silk inside? I'd like to list it, but I guess if I can't get the goo off I'll have to keep it, oh dear! Thanks!

Try Goo-Gone or lighter fluid. Then clean with saddle soap.

I used to work in a leather store. Most leather goods stores sell products that can help get things off. I am probably answering too late but maybe someone can use the info.
