I have seen some posters here praise FedEx Ground shipping but I never had never used it. Well, I had to ship a birthday present to a friend today, and here's what I found out:
Size: 22 x 17 x 6
5 1/2 pounds
from zip 921XX (Calif.) to 173XX (Penn.)
$100 insurance
home delivery
You can find the nearest location to you from their website (www.FedEx.com). If you check rates, make sure to specify "Home Delivery" and not "FedEx Ground" (unless it's going to a business). There seems to be a glitch in the website--they're not calculating the fuel surcharge (in my example, the website quoted $6.92 and it was $7.01 at the counter). If a FedEx location is not near you, I don't know what the arrangements might be for pickups if you decide to get an account and ship regularly through them. A friend of mine got some china sent to her a couple of months ago, and her seller said she could go to her local shipping store and have THEM pack it and it still cost less than UPS (I don't know if every shipping store will do FedEx).
I thought I'd pass on this info to you all since I had to check the rates for myself anyway. I know competition can be fierce on eBay, and some people might use the shipping charge as the deciding factor when figuring out which auction to bid on!
