Every once in a while I will have a winning bidder send me his/her credit card information by email. Today I had THREE!
Do they not realize that sending their credit card number (complete with billing address and expiration date) through email is a risky proposition? Does anyone else have a problem with this? How do you handle it? Is there a way to prevent it?

I have no idea WHY they do it.
But, in your EOA, you can add a statement like : If you wish to provide your credit card information via e-mail, please do so in two seperate e-mails. This is a security measure to protect your information since e-mail transmissions are not secure.

Thanks kidsfeet. I don't want their credit card info at all. I want them to use PayPal, Billpoint, PayDirect, or BidPay as stated in my TOS and EOA. It boggles the mind to think that people would feel secure sending this info through email. I think I'll take your advice and put something in my EOA about not sending CC info to me directly.

Unless, of course, they're using a stolen credit card number in the first place, so they don't care if anybody else steals it from them....

My favorite was one customer who said they were afraid to use their card on the internet, but then promptly sent me their credit card number, along w/expiration date in an email.
