I have been trying different templates for auctions and can't decide where it is best to place the image. Quick Poll: Do you prefer the image at the top (above description), bottom (below description), or to the left/right side?

I never really thought about it, I put mine below the description. I don't think I would put them beside the description, the pictures would either need to be small (not good), or some people that have 14 or 15 inch monitors set to 640 X 480 would have to "scroll" to see them.
Some bidders don't seem to want to read the descriptions (if they did, I wouldn't get emails asking questions that are answered in the description), so I would think if it wasn't the first thing they saw, this proplem would be even worse.

My first choice is at the the bottom, or possibly the center; second choice is the top; and last choice is the side. I think the side location gives an unbalanced look to the listing, makes the text beside it somewhat cramped and harder to read.
If the side location is used, I think you need a slightly larger font for the description beside it, and frequent line breaks.

I like the side. When I read a description I like to look at the picture but I guess you can ask many people and they will all have a different answer and the reason. If you want the description to match the picture you have to add blanks between the description and the terms of service. For the psople that have a lot of information the side picture would not work. Everything would be lopsided. Also if I have many pictures I use the top.

"A picture is worth a thousand words"
I prefer photos at the top, then the description. How many times have you read: "Rare, Beautiful, Great condition for the age......" Once I see the photo and know that I generally like the item, I will Then be interested in the details.

Interesting topic...I've never thought about it before. If I have two or three photos, I'll generally put them on the side thinking folks would like to glance over at the item while they're reading the description. One photo? I generally go with top or middle...I rarely, if ever, put the photo on the bottom but, based on what folks say here, may try it. Speaking of photos/templates, I especially like the AW template that has the teal/black distinctive frame appearance. I think that template really "shows off" the item...almost makes the item look like framed artwork.
