Just a little heads up for any of you sellers out there that have Paypal Bidder Notification enabled.
I've just spent the last hour and a half manually sending notices to all the winning bidders I've had the last 5 days. I received MANY complaints from bidders that they never received their winning bid confirmation notices from us for their winning auctions.
These above Paypal notices are either not being sent or are somehow being ignored by customers. I'm not sure what the actual Paypal Bidder Notifcation email looks like, but I hope it clearly identifies itself as a winning bid notice, rather than an advertisement for Paypal.
Anyone encoutering a similar experience? If so, kindly reply, as I would like to finalize the decision on whether or not to keep the feature enabled.
Thanks.

Damon:
Can you email me at [email protected] to discuss?
I'm continuously receiving emails from my customers asking me for payment details on their winning auctions. My bidder notification is activated, but I'm not sure if the confirmations are being sent. I have in the area of 50 auctions that have closed with winning bidders and I'm not sure if they have been contacted.
Help!

I recently won an item and payed the next day using PayPal. The day after that I got her PayPal EOA notice! I emailed her and told her she should check it out as such late notices are a hindrance rather than a help.
I keep my PayPal EOA notices turned off for this same reason.

Dennis:
Thanks for the information.
The Paypal notices are supposed to be sent out within an hour after the auctions close. It sounds like it's running around two days instead of one hour.

Hi,
Thanks for bringing these items to my attention. I am checking with Product and Engineering on the issue. It does not seem to be a widespread issue, but I am checking to be safe.

Damon ... it might look like spam.
The most BASIC spam filter checks the FROM and the server that is handing off the emails. If they don't match, the email is trashed as spam. The email has to come FROM a PayPal address, not FROM the PayPal user's address. (especially if the user's address is MSN.COM, AOL.CON, or any of the big free webmail services ... if it's not an AOL server, my ISP bounces the email right back).
A second basic anti-spam filter is to trash everything that does not have MY email address in the TO or the CC filter. If you are putting the recipient's address in the BCC field, it looks like spam and will be trashed.
You can't expect us to stop filtering spam just to make it easy for PayPal to send email.

I just received two (2) paypal notices this evening (around 9:30pm PDT). The auctions ended two (2) days ago.
It was a double pain because paypal doesn't bother to include the auction number in the subject line. You have to open the stupid notice to find out what auction they are for.
paypaldamon If paypal can't get the notices out on time, at the least you could do is include the auction number in the subject line. I never go by the description, always by the auction number.

I've been receiving them and dislike them. Each auction generates at least 2 of them which arrive 2 days after end of auction (often after receipt of eoa from seller and payment already sent, so it looks like the seller is dunning for a duplicate payment).
I would recommend that any seller who has this option on go turn it off and give PayPal a Whatfer that the service is an abomination.
They look like this::
From:: <seller's email>
Title:: Congratulations! You have won <auction title>
Body::
Dear <my name>,
Congratulations! You are the winning bidder for the following item:
Auction Title: <auction title>
Auction Listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/xx
Winning Bid: xx
Number of items: 1
I accept payment through PayPal. To pay me instantly and securely
with your credit card or checking account, just click this link:
http://www.paypal.com/wbn/wbn=xx
For more information on my shipping, insurance, and other policies, or if you would like to pay for this item with a method other than PayPal, please see this auction listing for details.
Thank you,
<seller name>

This message was sent on <seller's name>'s behalf using PayPal's
Winning Bidder Notification service. PayPal is the number
one payment service on eBay and the preferred online payment
method of over 7 million people.
You will also receive an official notification of your winning
bid from eBay.

Hi,
Thanks for reporting the issues here.
There is an issue with a limited number of users and engineering is working on getting this correct as quickly as possible. I would expect resolution shortly and this does not appear to be a widespread issue.
Many thanks for your patience and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Damen:
My last batch of winning notices also took 2 days to be delivered to my customers.
Is the problem being corrected?
I'm contemplating disabling the service, as it is currently doing more harm than good.
The favor of an update would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Moderators - this is not an Ebay issue, rather one for the more general"on-line auction threads, no?
Why do you allow some people to conduct their Customer Support in this forum?
I am sure that many come here to hear Ebay issues and not those unrelated to that company.
Shipping, troll, whining and rants that are not specifically related to Ebay belong somewhere else.....but not here.
In doing so I am sure that you will keep the Board "topic specific" and therefore totally in keeping with the AW themes.
Thank you for your consistency.

Hi computerboy,
I will check on the issue again today and report on what I have found.
Hi drtrooth,
I do try to keep the users in the Partner Services forum whenever possible.
However, some may post about a specific issue or set of issues in the eBay thread and I respond over here as little as possible.
Thanks!

The specific message was not addressed to you, so kindly restrain yourself from writing replies on issues that do not concern you.
The posting in question specifically relates to notices that are being sent by paypal for EBAY auctions, thus making them perfectly appropriate for this forum.
AuctionWatch has a moderator, so kindly allow them to do their job and make their own judgement calls regarding related topics of discusssion.

Hi,
The issue appears to be fixed at this time. There is a delay for users using the BIN feature on their auctions that is being addressed and should be corrected shortly.
Thanks for your patience and please feel free to let me know of any issues in the Partner Services Forum.
