Does anyone know what methods the automated sniping tools use to place bids on someone's behalf? I presume they have a database where the info is kept, and some kind of back end program which accesses the data and snipes at the right time. But what kind of program? Perl/cgi or c, c++ or something else? How complex does a program like that have to be to deal with http protocols?

I'm not comfortable giving my eBay password to a sniping service and I'm interested in building my own tool. I can usually figure this stuff out, but don't even know where to start in this case.

Anybody?
