OK, we haven't had one of these threads in a while. I normally sell about 99 percent of the stuff I list and when I have things that won't go I always wonder why. My latest strikes have been a Catholic instruction book for converts that has been the rounds of Marketplace, Half, and Ebay (twice) without any sales. I also had a book about Sioux Indian history that did the same three rounds without a purchase. Anyone else have a dog that just can't find an owner?? Share your sad story here!

I am sitting in a very small corner of a fairly large room that is full of that kind of thing. I have at least one garage sale a year and sell that stuff to all those people who are ebay sellers--they always grab up armloads. I wonder if the stuff sells for them.

One clue may be that I don't see the same people more than 2 times at any of my sales. I also take a few higher end items to consignment auctions and they usually do much better than I expect. Go figure!

My brother and I won a large book auction last November, and part of the haul were those "Baker Play Additions", about 100 or so. We listed them once, listed them twice, three times-no hits, never mind bids. Started thinking they would go mighty fine in the woodstve, as it got real cold and snowy here in NH this year. Finally, my wife put them up for sale on "Open Mike" (a Sunday call in show that you can buy/sell) and, believe it or not, a lady up the street from us bought the whole lot for $25. At least we didn't have to pay eBay on the %, eh?!

I have some great looking HOMER LAUGHLIN'S that just won't sell. Good photos, my usual good description, and (I think) reasonable price too.

After over a dozen listings on three auction sites, they just won't sell.

If they weren't so darn nice, I'd use them for targets...

A singing bird clock, bought 4 & sold three a few months ago. Looks like I'm going to have to give this one as a gift. It just won't sell. Third auction closed 3/30 without any takers. When I bought them I put a battery in one & forgot it, when the bird "chirped" it scared the he#@ out of me. Sure didn't sound like a bird call to me. The buyers of the other three loved them!

That Catholic book sounds interstring.

Anyway, my just won't sell item is a drama kit. It has make-up, plays, "tickets", and programs. I thought it would be great for a homeschooler, but it just won't sell. Most of my stuff sells but this really amazed me. I'm going to be listing a bunch of homeschool stuff again soon, and will stick this in the middle of it.

*L* The one item I have that refuses to leave me is an old sound projector that works. It's huge. I've seen similar ones sell several times. They usually go for $60+. I've had it start at $9.99, NR and nothing. Oh well, my granddaughter has decided that to watch a movie, you HAVE to use that. To listen to music, you HAVE to use a record player ( CD's don't count) *L*

I've listed my black formal (size 6, taffeta, perfect condition) at least four times on eBay. I've tried it as low as $1 twice, and it STILL wouldn't sell! But I did have the same person write me each time, after the auction closed, asking if I would sell it to her for the $1.

I did sell a teal satin formal, with matching shoes, for $1, and it really pained me to do it. But at least it is gone! No more experimenting in areas that I don't normally sell in!

Dog Turd.

One of a kind item, no other turd exactly like it. Collectors item, unique strong odor.

Doesn't sell.

I have a nice photo, but I think it doesn't sell because you can't put odors on the internet.

1. Anything that requires thought to use.
2. Anything that isn't the latest and greatest. No wonder they went from collectibles and antiques to "marketplace".
3. Anything at giveaway prices with more than 10 email queries.
4. Anything else....

"the Better Back Book" hardcover with dust jacket. In perferct condition. It's a great book but I've listed it 4 times already.

I think I'm gonna give up for now. Maybe it will sell later. I guess nobody has back pain anymore!

Ever see something at an estate sale that you are sure is unique enough to get great bids? My husband constantly reminds me of the $30 "Indian Head" fiasco. Sold it twice and both times never got the money. It was very heavy and my guess is no-one wanted to pay the shipping. (I included the weight and the UPS URL so bidders could determine shipping, but I guess no-one checked.) I finally donated it to a charity sale. Then there was the ceramic cabbage bowl--very ugly--looked like a cabbage on steriods. No bids. That went to my sister-in-law for Christmas (it was a joke--but she may have thought we meant it as a serious gift because she's never mentioned it.) An owl made out of shells didn't sell on eBay but was unique enough to be chosen for eBay magazine's section on weird items. We've had great success with many things, but I guess everyone's entitled to bad judgement once in a while!

I sell clothes mostly. For some reason I can't sell dresses! They are all beautiful like new, different styles, mostly dressy, some won't even go for $1.00. A few have gone for just opening bid $1-$3. I don't understand this, I do real well with other clothes.

wbbell....... I went to that site and it was so awful..... awful funny!

I hit the play button to 'hear' the little dog barking and my 'hero' who was sleeping in my lap jumped up and barked back - - then bit ME! My hero! Idiot! Welllll, it was only a love-bite! I laughed so hard I played it twice more, he got so wound up he jumped onto the keyboard and lost my connection.

Of course I would never, never send such a thing to anyone ....... BUT it's amazing to know there are other folks who get as mad as I do occasionally. I only think of evil mean bad things to do.... I'd never follow my baser instints because I determine how I act, not some jerk.

I have listed and sold 2 pairs of Executive rhinestone cufflinks. 3 Times all 3 times bidder never paid. Maybe it's a men buying jewelry thing maybe some evil Karma about them who knows these cufflinks just seem to attract the deadbeats.

I've had some movies that I've been trying to sell for over a year now. I went as low as a starting price of $0.01 and STILL NO BIDS!! Geez, how can you not want a movie for a penny?? I finally got so disgusted that I made up a huge lot of movies, most of them the junk I couldn't sell, but then I put in about a dozen or so really popular ones and finally I sold everything. So I guess the trick is to toss everything together.

I had some How-To sex tapes for spicing up your married life. I could not sell them for $3 so I gave them away as a gag. Not dirty enougfh I guess.
I have 2 cook books for the proffesional cook in French that cover seafood and fancy buffets and canapes like you would put out at a state dinner or a fancty cruise ship. Tried amazon/Yahoo and eBay. No interest.

I sell mostly toys. Around Christmas I did great, but I guess its just a bad time of the year for toy sales. I'm usually a pretty good judge of what will sell and what won't. But lately, I'm starting to wonder. I tried 3 times to sell these heavy cardboard chairs that kids can put together themselves and decorate with paints. My kids loved them, but not even one bid. Almost NOTHING that I list lately seems to be selling. Even when I start it with a ridiculously low starting bid. Right now I have a particular toy listed with a starting bid of $25.00. I know that its a popular item and Amazon.com sells it for about $55.00, but I KNOW I'm not even going to get one bid!

During the Summer Slump, I just can't afford ebays fees.

You would think, when sales are down, egreed could give us a break on fees. Owell, no fees at all for them from me until the bidding picks up.
