This is driving me absolutely CRAZY!! I've been organizing my bookmarks today, and, as I've found in the past, Internet Explorer will not let me delete the "Links" folder under my bookmarks. Well, that's not quite accurate... I can delete it, but the damned thing regenerates itself shortly afterward! It's EVIL! How can I make it go away?
I've tried flat-out deleting it, and I've also tried renaming it. When I rename it the renamed folder will remain, but another incarnation of "Links" shows up again later.
And what a dumb name for a folder... they're ALL links! Is there a way to do away with it permanently?

LOL... I used to use a Mac, and I used to use Netscape, too, on my PC. Both failed me, so now I'm stuck with products of the Evil Empire. Sigh.

RainyBear,
I was wondering about that links folder too. You gave me the courage to try and delete mine. I clicked on favorites, then organize favorites, clicked on the links folder and deleted it. Closed by browser and it's still gone. Now I'm worried!

The links folder in IE corresponds to the links toolbar. Anything in the links folder will display on the links toolbar.
This is probably built into IE and the folder will be recreated if you are using the toolbar. (May be recreated even if you are not using the toolbar.)
I really like the links. I put the four or five pages I use the most (i.e. AW, or ebay searches) in there and I can go directly to the page with one click.

I can sympathize... I delete my "my documents" folder at least twice a day! I design websites for a living, and all of my files are stored on my "D" drive, so I start cursing when my Notepad defaults to opening in "my documents". In Win95, I could prevent it by selecting another fold to open to in properties, but in Win98, if the "my documents" folder exists, it overwrites your preferences! Does anyone have a solution? I want this thing GONE FOREVER!

To change the default folder for My Documents, right-click My Documents (the icon on the desktop), click Properties, and, in Target, type or browse for the path and folder name where you want to save files.

Aha! I deactivated the "Links" toolbar and deleted the folder again, and... for now... it appears not be be regenerating. (Knock on wood.)
