Morning All- I just wanted to share...
Last night at Midnight I got a call from a bidder. He wanted to know when his package was shipped. I told him I was sleeping, he just continued asking questions! I'll get back to him today, but geez! He was not even concerned about calling so late..Said I have to do business on his terms, and by his schedule.
I am so ticked off! Even if the package was late (which I don't think it is), does he really have the right to invade my privacy at Midnight? Am I overeacting? Or would you be ticked off too?

I'd be ticked off too. I once had a customer call at 6 am and she couldn't figure out that since I am on the west coast and she was on the east that there would be a time difference. Duh! That is one negative that comes from working from home I guess. I even had an answering machine on but she was so loud that she woke me up so I just dealt with her then. People are so weird sometimes.

I don't even like to talk on the phone at "normal" hours to anyone - I just don't like to talk on the phone. But your posts reminded me how glad I am that I have our "posted" phone number, one which is forwarded to our shop, and if a customer calls at a weird hour, the call is forwarded to the shop where they get no answer.
I prefer e-mail, because it is always there, it is in writing so there is no confusion on who says what.

You all may want to consider using an email/fax/voice mail service and post the voice mail number as your phone number. That way, it goes into your box and can be listened to when its convenient for you. There are several FREE services available on the internet which can be found by a simple search.
Sleep tight all!

I had a bidder call me at 2am to ask me what the beads in an auction titled.
Vintage 36" strand Green Glass Lampwork Beads"
Were made from I told him off in spades.
What part of glass beads didn't he understand.
I am not one to wake up at 2am not to mention my lover was Po'd all of the next day because he couldn't get to sleep.

We use the # at our shop and not our home phone. The only calls we ever received was before online services like Billpoint so some customers called with their CC #'s. Even though we put the times in our EOA that we would be there to accept calls we noticed by the call display that people tried calling very early in the morning or middle of night.
Since we do most of our auctions in the winter months when our store is slower we do not have employees there. So each time an enthusiastic buyer called it was when my husband had stepped out to go to the post office or to the bank.
The bidders were very nice but some were very chatty and they always seem to call when I had a RL customer as well. So I was always trying to balance two situations at once and it was never the easiest thing to do. I hope I never have to do that again. I hated it!

Get a free voice mail phone!
At most you should only have to pay $10 a month.
Ureach is no longer free, but there is another one, www.onebox.com has been tried by a buddy of mine who runs an online radio station/record label. I am thinking of using it, too. (it's portable)
I currently get a free one from the local alterno radio station. All I have to do is listen to a 10 second blurb and I can check messages.
For more info on net based ones:
http://cnet.com/internet/0-3784-8-4797241-1.html
Barring that you can turn your phone off, but who wants to do that?
Anyhow it's better than dealing with some fellow in New York who thinks his 5 am coffee and danish is a great time to call the nice lady in Seattle....
edited to add....
If you want a place to store a bazillion bookmarks, I do recommend ureach.com. I have loaded over a thousand bookmarks and it's only scratched the surface of the storage capacity.

kyms,
Personally, I'd call him at 3AM (his time) every morning asking, "Did it get there yet?".

Moderators - this is not an Ebay issue, rather one for the more general "on-line auction" threads, no? I did not see the word "Ebay" anywhere.
I am sure that many come here to hear Ebay issues and not those unrelated to that company.
Shipping, troll, whining and rants that are not specifically related to Ebay belong somewhere else.....but not here.
In doing so I am sure that you will keep the Board "topic specific" and therefore totally in keeping with the AW themes.
Thank you for your consistency.

How can you say this thread does not relate to eBay? Read the initial post! An eBay bidder called a seller at 12:00 midnight, and the seller wanted to know how other eBay sellers would have reacted. This is very valuable information to be shared and learned for EBAY sellers! I don't see why it should not be posted in this forum!

Was it an EBAY seller that had an EBAY bidder call at midnight?
Yep....that makes it an ebay thread!

Oh-ho-ho-ho!
You could no further from the Trooth!
I support the right of anyone to view & sell monkey-porn.....on Ebay, Yahoo or anywhere else that it is allowed, or any kind of kink [cept the child type] that someone may wish to view or own.
Lane family...thanks for the support on this issue....but I will not be able to support you in your attempts at censorship.
Let not let people get confused...I am not in favor of censorship in my piosts for correct placement....just for proper placement and consistency in moderation by those charged with those duties.

There's that word again censorship. Capriole was the one that brought that up not me. Geesh one little post and everyone goes bananas. It must have hit home with a few people or should I say my point got across.
Is it Friday for everyone else also, way too much time being spent here.

Back on topic. I have been so lucky the latest I have had anyone call is 10:00pm my time. I have only had maybe 2 calls in 3 years. I would think I would have more since I sell computer parts but most just e-mail me. Maybe there is no weirdos in Computers?

I had a guy call once, waking me up to ask me a) where I got my stuff, and b) if he could buy off-auction! He wasn't a bidder ... he had just seen my auction listed and pulled my contact info.
It was obvious I had been asleep -- I had that lovely scratchy unmistakable just-woke-up voice -- but he either didn't notice or didn't care. He had to tell me twice before I could get awake enough to realize what he was saying. Bad thing is, it wasn't anything urgent, so I don't know why he chose to call me instead of e-mailing.
I went into eBay and replaced my home phone number with a voice mail number as soon as I was awake enough to focus my eyes.
