She gave a reason, but it was, to say the least, an overreaction.
All because a discussion becomes spirited DOES NOT mean it is combative. This watering down of these boards is making them not only frustrating, but downright uninteresting.
Please UNLOCK the thread titled the BIGGEST racket going.

Lord only knows the background and/or mindset of some of these moderators. My guess is they don't make much money and derive some pleasure out of overmoderating. It's kind of a power thing.
It is a shame. Most of the posters are probably, like myself, approaching middle age. The mods, on the other hand, are likely around college age.
It does explains a lot as to the way these boards are (micro)managed.

I thought the thread was interesting also. I didn't find it that "combative" at all. I was following the different views on this issue and I was disappointed to see that it was locked.
I am not sure if this topic has been discussed before (from this viewpoint) and if it has been discussed already it must have been awhile ago as I don't remember it. Not like some topics that rear their ugly heads every day or so.
