I've noticed several smaller e-stores use yahoo groups to update buyers on their payment/shipping status. Updating every couple of days, with lists of what shipped on what day, what payments have arrived, what payments haven't arrived yet. (First name and last initial usually...).

I simply don't have the time (or energy) to email every single person when I've received a payment or when their item has shipped. So, I was considering opening a yahoo e-group and putting the link in my email signature, so the buyers can simply refer to that message board (or opt to receive the emails) and check the status of their order.

Good idea? Pros, cons? Anything?

Thanks!

If I were concerned about when my payment was received or order shipped (typically, I'm not), I would prefer that the seller notify me by email regarding my particular order rather than having to search a message board to learn the status of the order, but I guess having the message board option would be better than nothing for those who desire that information.

I simply don't have the time (or energy) to email every single person when I've received a payment or when their item has shipped.

If time or energy is a concern, there are numerous auction management software programs available (offering a range of features) which allow you to send individual email messages literally in seconds. True, if you are dealing with hundreds of auctions, even that does add up, but it probably wouldn't take any more time than updating a message board list.

I've never thought of that. I use Auction Tamer and when I get a payment it gets entered into the program, email sent, and label made. Great program! It would be interesting to set up a Yahoo! group for your bidders though to announce specials and new auction items. I've debated on doing a mailing list since many become annoyed at that. With a Yahoo group it would be voluntary and they could have it mailed or check it on the web. Hmmmmmm. Not a bad idea!
