Hello everyone,

I am an relatively active eBay buyer/seller since two years and I love designers clothes & accessories. Were I live, it is hard to find designers stuff and that is why I love eBay. The only problem is that there is a lot of fake... I do not understand why eBay can't do anything?

Last year I listed a nice black & white cardigan with gold buttons. In my description, I said "has a Chanel look". Only few minutes after I launched the auction, I received an email from eBay asking me to change my description and they also said that was a warning for the first "mistake" but the next time...

There are so many sellers who list many fake designers items for sale, and sometimes, the final price (or BIN) is almost the same as an authentic one! Some fakes really looks real.

2 years ago, (I was a newbie and so excited) I bought a fake well known designer handbag... I just gave it to local charity. Ever happened to you?

How can I be really sure that it is authentic when the seller do not have original receipts and/or cards. Is there a way for a seller to have the item examined and approved by a specialize shop/store?

Thanks in advance for your ideas, experiences and advices,

Issaro (only on AW)

I'm a high end sunglass seller on eBay and only sell authentic product. I am familiar with your situation, as I find myself having to compete with unscrupulous sellers who offer knoc-off/couterfeit goods and represent them as real.

I recommend that you ask the seller the direct "authenticity" question before placing your bid. If they are unwilling to 100% guarantee the authenticity of their goods and stand behind their product, do not place your bid.

One way that I defuse this issue in my auctions is by placing the following message in all of my advertisements:

"GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC"

This usually answers the question.

Seller feedback can also be checked to determine if the goods a seller is offering are legimate. If they have defrauded people in the past, chances are that they have negative feedback from unhappy buyers.

Hope this helps...

The easiest way is to look at bid prices, Feedback rating, and ask about authenticity guarentee.
I am amazed at the number of Big Name Designer items that are fakes but a simple feedback check ussually clears this up.
I am always leary when you see $200 sunglasses at a starting bid of $5 check feedback and sure enough 20 complaints about knock off goods.
Just be careful not all Designers Use VERO
