I am creating a web page using the above-mentioned product and wondered if anyone else has used it or is familiar with it?

I used them until they wanted me to pay. The free version only allows you to list your item. The "Add to Cart" is disabled. One way to get around it is to use mal's free shopping cart.
Another solution is to dump freemerchant and go with a free solution called ezwebstore. All you need a web host that provides CGI-BIN support. Even found a programmer that interfaced the ezwebstore with mal's shopping cart.
Now you can have your own domain and have full control over layout and content! Gotta love it!

Cricket, we have our store with Freemerchant. I love it. It did change from free recently, but well worth the money for someone who is not very coding or computer design savy.

bevskiwolf,
I checked out your site and I think it looks great! I have been working on my for a week now. It is very time consuming taking pictures, writing the descriptions etc. ! I have a question, I really haven't taken a peak at the tutorial stuff, which I should. But on your site you have your merchandise categories on the first page, then when you click on the picture/category that you are interested in that takes you to that category, and then when you choose what you would like in the category [I, of course, went into Kitchenware under butterdishes (a fetish of mine)] that is where you have the item and the button "add" with the amount. What purpose does that serve? Does that go automatically in a shopping cart which I believe does not work yet? Is that right?
Can you tell I am a novice?
I find Freemerchant.com extremely easy to use. My question is too do you make sales just in your shopping cart on your site or do you have buyers contact you directly?

Yep! That's exactly what happens. The shopping cart order comes to you as an invoice. I have the shipping and everything set up so that the invoice from us is already calculated and the total is already set. We then send a confirmation email (and adjust anything, sometimes the shipping is a bit off) and then send the invoice all through freemerchant.
It's wonderful. A LOT of work. I had 2,000 lightswitch covers on there at one time and took them all down. That hurt. LOL
Email me (click on my name) if you have any more questions! And keep at it. I need a good solid week to finish our site, but just can't seem to find the time! Kitchen category isn't done yet , thus I have the item names up, but no product. If you check out Blue Willow category or even the Cast Iron category on the site, it's done and has the prices and pics.
It's fun and worth every second I've devoted to it.
