I need another good working motherboard for my laptop. The repair shop says it will cost $650 to replace it. Compaq wants $1035 to replace it. I only payed a $1000 for it. It is still a very good laptop all except for the motherboard, which was damaged by the AC adapter plug-in when I loaned it to a friend.
The bottom line is this. This is also used for my business needs so I really need to get it fixed. However, I cannot afford to pay high prices for it. If someone has another laptop like mine that is defective, yet has a good motherboard, please contact me. I will tell you now that I cannot afford to pay much for it. Please contact me at [email protected]. I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can give
I am sorry to hear of your computer problems. Loaning expensive items to friends can often have disasterous results. However, if you are planning to replace the motherboard yourself... let me STRONGLY advise against it. I am a computer repair technician, and I can assure you that doing any extensive repair on a laptop is extremely difficult. If you do not have the right equipment, schematics and experience... you are likely to do MUCH more damage then good. The $650 repair estimate is actually fairly reasonable... The motherboard part probably costs in the range of $350-$450.... tack on labor... and you get the $650.... but, if you shop around, you might find sligtly cheaper (around $500-550) repair estimates. Still.. this IS a lot to invest in a broken computer. My personal recomendation would be to use the money you would have spent on repair to purchase a new DELL or Gateway laptop (MUCH better quality than COMPAQ). Best of luck!
