My local Salvation Army store started a "bag day" every Tuesday. I've bought 4 bags for $5.00 each (big grocery bags) for the last two weeks. I've only listed items from the first bag sale and have made over $200.00!!! One lot of three shirts from these bags went for $41.00.
I'm just starting to list the stuff I got today.
I LOVE the "bag sales", do they have these sales anywhere else?

My Salvation Army and Goodwill have never heard of such a thing. Some small, church run thrift stores have regular bag sales.

I personally have not set foot inside a SA for over 1 year. A friend that lives near a SA store tells me their prices are still higher than retail.

I'm afraid that I would fond too much. My book-finds already are cluttering up my basement.
How do you scan clothes? If I would have to add a picture to every description without a digital camera, I would be toast!!!!

I live near 4 different SA stores. 3 of them are very reasonable and if I go there once a week I do pretty well.

The one store though, I have not gone to in several, several months and I refuse to go there for any reason.

The manager of that store drives a new cadillac, her prices are OUTRAGEOUS, and I was told by employees that she takes all the good stuff that never see the shelves.

In all the other stores I can get a nice women's business suit in really nice shape for $5.99 - $9.99. In her store I can get a stained, torn, suit with missing buttons for $28.99. I think not! She's out of her mind. I've seen ugly, old fashioned men's suits priced at $50+.

I can't even buy a t-shirt there for less than $5! I have totally boycotted that store. When you are in there, all you hear is people talking about the high prices. Even in the other local SA's everyone is talking about that store.

Bag sale??? I wish! The only places around here who have bag sales are some of the local churches (Rummage Sales) and that's only every once in a while.

You are very lucky! I would be thrilled if one of our SA's had a bag sale!

No bag sale but one of the SA I go to has a different color tag 1/2 price. Every little bit helps, but I'd love a bag sale!!

Where do you live? I'm moving there! The lady who runs our salvation army store takes the good stuff home. (Maybe she is an eBay seller.) If she knows you buy to resell, she ups the prices to some ridiculous amount. Lucky you!

The one running the one I went to takes the good stuff and sells them on her own. Don't know if it's ebay or what...but that's what I've heard. All of the stuff there is very nasty.

Normally the person running a Salvation Army Thrift store, is a local employee.

If you suspect items are being misappropriated, call you local Salvation Army Office and ask to speak to the "Officer In Charge". They may be able to offer an explanation. Some items may be being removed and given directly to the needy. If items are being taken, they are in position to correct the situation.

If you do not get satisfactory results, ask for the location and phone number of the divisional headquarters. You can be assured the staff there will take you complaint serious and initate appropriate action.

If all else fails or you do not want to confront the issue directly, contact your local United Way. They will contact the Salvation Army.

Maybe a calmly-written letter sent to SA headquarters would at least get them investigating that thief! Shame on her!

i'm reeeally picky about what i buy at the thrifts, so don't know about bag sales, but i love the idea in theory!

around these parts there's a goodwill, salvation army, and an independent (charity) thrift. the independent used to be terrific. but in the past year or so they've upped their prices to the point of absurdity: *used* dresses and pants for $19.95+, suits for $30+ (and i ain't talkin about designer or even close), tops/blouses for $10-15. for heaven's sake, you can go to ross and get NEW things for these prices! makes me irritated just going in there, when for many years i adored going in. i regularly overhear people complaining. the 'regulars' i've seen in there for years have stopped going, too. and i've heard many rumors from people who should know about the manager taking all the good stuff that comes in and reselling it to dealers for his own gain. i will not donate anything to them anymore, and i'm not the only one boycotting them. keep meaning to write a letter to the charity, because i don't think they know what's going on.

Our goodwill store got kicked out of goodwill for raising prices and not paying their debts. They have lowered their prices and started a 50% and *75% off sale. Sometimes they have a bag sale on the weekends.
It's been great for me. The Salvation army and ex goodwill are competing for our business.
