Hi, I have a book dated:

Copyright, MCML, MCMLIII

Can someone tell me what date that is? I am clueless with roman numerals! Or does anyone know of a website where I could check?

Thanks for the help!

Maybe the book was published by MacMillan?

Thanks guys! (No, the book was not published by McMillan, either.)

Thanks for the link Zoomin! I am bookmarking it!

MCML = 1950

MCMLIII = 1953

M = 1000
D = 500
C = 100
L = 50
X = 10
V = 5
I = 1

When C comes before M, subtract 100 from 1000 which equals 900

When X appears before C, subtract 10 from 100 which equals 90

When X appears before L, subtract 10 from 50 which equals 40

When I appears before X, subtract 1 from 10 which equals 9

edited because 6 years of Latin didn't improve my typing ability. Sheesh

So much for the current educational system.
1950 and 1953. Congrats jlpiece - clever, original wit's hard to come by.

Hi Executive Girl, so nice to see you. Try this link, I just used it this A.M. All you have to do is put in the Roman Numerals ad it converts it for you. http://www.ivtechstudios.com/roman/
I do not know how to make it clickable from here. If you are having problems let me know and I can email it to you where you can click onto it from there.

jlb444,

Are you asking how to show a picture on AW?

If so, just use:

insert your image location here w/no spaces

Except insert a [ and ] for the < and >

edited because 1 year of typing didn't give me as much expertise as 6 years of Latin

HI Bill,

4 years of high school and 2 years of advanced Latin in college. What can I say? I'm not a well person but the Latin Clubs throw THE best toga parties!

jlb444,

You don't need the "img src" portion either. Just simply [ img ]http:whatever[ /img ] but don't leave ANY spaces.
