I was very upset to see this change after submitting my listing tonite, then going back to the sell item form and see that they are now defaulting all new item listings to "I ACCEPT ESCROW, BUYER PAYS FOR FEES".

This text comes DIRECTLY from the sell item page: (Note the first line)

[## BEGIN QUOTED TEXT FROM EBAY ##]
Escrow by Tradenable Please note: the escrow default setting has changed!

X I accept escrow on items over $500, if the buyer pays the escrow fees.
o I accept escrow on items over $500, and I will pay the escrow fees.
o I won't accept escrow (if chosen, the
Escrow line doesn't appear in the listing)

Learn more about escrow
[## END QUOTED TEXT FROM EBAY ##]

eBay--Changing these types of defaults without notice IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!

I've noticed at times that several of the "defaults" where goofy. The other day I was listing some stuff, and in the area you check off where you will ship to it said:

USA Only
Canada
Europe

It wouldn't take the auction like that, and I had to correct it, but it WAS marked like that.

I checked and it does default to escrow, the sleezy little bleeps.
Thanks for the heads up mrlatenite.

They did it about a week ago.

There's some bold red text that appears near the Escrow section... "ATTENTION" or something like that... but I think many folks tend to just scroll past that anyway.

Yes they did change the default... but it's not to automatically accept escrow.... the default is set to accept escrow on items over $500.00

I resent having to stop at the escrow section now and REcheck the default for "I will NOT accept escrow, and it will NOT appear as an option in my listing AT ALL".
(My long time experience as an eBay seller and my Positive Feedback record is what my customers rely on... NOT some money hungry third party/ eBay alliance).

What good are PRE-setting DEFAULTS on eBay, when it seems they've been changing and resetting them to suit whatever numbers game they've got going on at the time...

I agree... it was SNEAKY and they probably did it in order to bolster the number of folks "offering escrow" on eBay as some marketing info. MANIPULATION, in my opinion.

I never understood escrow. Sure if a honest bidder wants to do it, fine, but there are way too mnay dishonest bidders who will take advantage of this system, and they may not even send the item back!. I never believed in it.

Dottie (& All):

I posted above *exactly* what appears on the sell item page--word for word. I edited my post to reflect their text versus my commentary.

Also, this was defaulted NOT on an item worth $500 or more.. It was on an item with a opening bid of 45 dollars and a reserve of $95 with BIN of $145. (In any case, it appears as soon as you hit the sell item page... not after you click to verify, so how could they know the price anyway to enable that option, since you enter it on the same page.)

I saw this was brought up before, but died quick thread deaths.. Apparently people don't realize it's changed for everyone.

They made a change with what terms that all sellers are offering without notifying (or ASKING!). That's just not right.

I realize that it's only *applicable* on items over $500, but when I got to the verify screen it said "I accept escrow" and made NO mention of it needing to be over $500. I wonder what appears if you actually submit it!

mrlatenite: Oh, I know!! *smile*... sorry if my post was confusing. The text on the SYI form (which the default is now set to) indicates that escrow would be something the seller would agree to IF the items ending value is $500.00 or more... but I can certainly understand (and AGREE) how that isn't what the BIDDER would be lead to believe when viewing the listing... since escrow appears as an OPTION, which would encourage bidders of lower value items to request the use of escrow anyway. *sigh*

The only option for sellers to use that would ELIMINATE the escrow option from appearing on the lising at all... is the LAST escrow option (no longer the default) which states that if you choose "I will not accept escrow" it will not even appear anywhere on the listing.

Confusing and Deceptive, in my opinion.

MAKE NOISE... or else the folks at eBay won't address your dissatisfaction regarding this issue.
