I blew it...am no longer pristine. My very first neg, and wow did I deserve it. Sent a framed print in a large bubble envelope, and forgot to cover the glass. USPS strikes on an uninsured item again! Then, to compound the error, I promised a refund of the bid, and promptly forgot about it. Anyone else get a neg that they truely deserved, espically if it was thier first one?

Thank you, tolz. I try to be honest in all of my dealings on eBay, as well as everywhere else. Right now I am trying to figure out where the 3rd misshipped item went (I confused packages the SAME DAY I shipped the item that got broken, so it was a walloper of a day!!). Oh well, (I know, deep subject), things will work out!

No, twinsoft, I am not new, unless being honest is a new trait!LOL!! Mayhap we should start a seller/buyer trait thread for fun...something like what you like to see in buyer/seller...I wouldn't mind a few shots of the moon from the sellers, so I know what they are truely offering! And maybe a money bank for those wonderful buyers out there!!

>compound the error, I promised a refund of the bid, and promptly forgot about it
I've pulled a couple (Ship the wrong item, blow a discription), but I haven't done that. When I owed someone a refund, they got it.
>In here, nobody ever deserves their negs.
Funny thing is when I truely deserve one, I get a understanding buyer will ship that wrong item on to the proper owner, save me money (and more grief), and give me a positive for my trouble

I sent an item out last week with the buyers name and MY address on it. It came back to me the other day. I emailed my buyer explaining and expecting the worst. My buyer replied with "only honest people make honest mistakes, don't worry about it" I did send him the original packaging with the postmark and the label sent to myself.
It's great to have an understanding customer for a change.

first, rick i must stand in line here to commend you for being such a refreshingly honest, responsible person. i'd give you a positive too, if i could
and, recently i made my first ebay boo boo. auction closed, emailed buyer, who replied the next day that she'd send out a money order. a week went by, then two. so i emailed her again, with a gentle reminder, stating i haven't yet received payment. she responds quickly saying she's staring at the m.o. receipt, could copy and send it to me if i'd like, doesn't know what to do as this has never happened before, and apologizes. i believed her, was about to come here to ask what the process is, when i noticed the large, seemingly permanent pile of papers on a corner of my desk. maybe?
yup, it was buried down several layers deep - envelope opened! only thing i can figure is it arrived while i was still in shock at hearing how much i owe the government. so i hurriedly wrote her back, apologized all over the place, and explained as best i could. i shipped it out within the hour, and enclosed a little pair of 14k earrings to make up for it, left her glowing feedback and took full responsibility for my error. her reply? 'don't worry about it - we all make mistakes.' and she left me lovely feedback

My only advice would be to make sure you leave a response in your feedback saying something like "Buyer is 100% correct. I screwed up big-time and it won't happen again."
I hate it when I see negs followed by a seller trying to weasel out of it with comments like "wacko customer" or "buyer didn't read terms carefully". I'd much rather see a seller admit to being human and promise to correct the problem in the future.

Barry

You poor thing, I wish you had had the understanding buyer I had 2 weeks ago. She paid by Paypal!!! the day after the auction. Just as I was getting ready to send reminders (10 days after auction, or a little later), something about her name nags at my subconscious. Go check, and yes, payment had been there all along.
I sent her a message with profuse apologies etc... and she couldn't have been sweeter. I left her the best feedback I could and she replied in kind.
These make up for the bums and deadbeats don't they? To me they do!

I can't imagine a buyer getting bent out of shape if the seller admits a mistake and tries to remedy the situation. About a month ago I bought an item from a Canadian seller. Just when I was starting to wonder why I hadn't received the item she emailed me to explain that she hadn't put enough postage on the package, and it had been returned to her; she'd send it out again right away.
Hey--no big deal. I replied as such, the package finally arrived, and we left each other positive feedback.
In about 80 transactions--I'm strictly a buyer--I've had only one bad experience, so I go into each transaction assuming the seller is honest, and I hope the sellers are assuming the same about me. Makes for a pleasant experience.
Of course, I realize there are both sellers and buyers out there who have been burned one too many times and have a hard time assuming all will go well.

Thank you all for the positive feedback, ! Just wish I could use it. This is one lesson I will not soon forget....btw, anyone need some glass fragments that were formerly the front of a picture frame??

Now I am angry!!!
Just received my second neg, for non-payment, no less!! The seller states I "never responded to many emails". Total B.S.!!!! He wanted a M.O., and I had forgotten about it. He sent me a nice reminder, and I emailed him stating I would send it out ASAP, I had forgotten (everything I pay is usually PayPal or check). I look today at my eBay page, and I am at 123??? Was 124 a few days ago. He had NEG'D ME. I left a response for my neg, and left him neutral feedback (didn't want to neg him back, too childish, but wanted to make my point). I guess my new question is, did I do right, or should I have done something different?

How many days ago did you respond by saying you would mail it out ASAP, you didn't say.
Is there a possibility he didn't receive your email?
Here is a tip for the future, when you forget to mail a payment & the seller sends a reminder, don't say I will mail it out ASAP, that's too vague. Say something like, I will mail my payment tomorrow, in two days etc. ASAP might mean tomorrow, but the seller really doesn't know & he's already a little ticked off that he is waiting & had to email again. Give him a mailing date & I'll bet he will hold off feedback because he knows when the payment will be sent, and don't forget to send it.

mcjane: Thanks, I am still wacked out over mismailed auctions, 2 weddings and a graduation this week. Normally, I send payment the next mailing day, but with it being a money order, it just slipped my mind at first. Guess I need more tacky notes, eh?!

rick: I agree; you made an honest mistake and your customer decided to be pig-headed about it.
I got a negative once; I informed everyone that I was going on vacation. That any checks that don't arrive by a certain date or after would either arrive just before I left on vacation or while I **was** on vacation (a 2 week vacation). Well, my customer complained that I not only did not send the package, but I didn't respond to his emails (At the time, I didn't have access to email outside the home; this has been corrected).
He gave me a negative rating. I felt lousy; but now, a year later.. it's the only one I have. My positives are 700+ with a final rating of almost 400. In the long run, it doesn't matter. You are obviously an honest, well-meaning person and that will come through with your other feedback ratings.
