Well this Sunday the Neighbourhod I live in is having a massive garage sale...Everyhouse...about 700 of them.
This is an yearly event and people come from miles..
Stuff is brought in from friends and familys that live in other areas of town...
We just moved here and I cant wait..
I was going to walk around from house to house...but what will I do with all the stuff?
My wife says I should park our two cars on the street the nigh before in stategic locations..so I can just dump what I buy in the cars..
Anyone got any suggestions on what i should look for...I have my owns areas of expertise...but any suggestions on somethings you find at garages sales that people don realize the resale on ebay to be.
Cheers!

Wish I could go to an event like that - sounds so fun! Hope you find great things and make a killing! Good luck and fill us in afterwards...

I have one of those shopping carts like our mom's used to take to the grocery store to get groceries and walk back with. Mine is a smaller model but it's great when you go to Church rummage sales, school tag sales, and neighborhood stuff. I put a box on the bottom and just pile them in. When it's full go to your strategic location unload and back for more. I think most grocery stores still have them in the houseware aisle usually up high on top shelves. I got mine at a tag sale for 2.00.

You see that TV ad where this lady built a wall of shopping carts around her parked car so no one can park near her. You can do the same and hire a kid to watch over the stuff while you go from house to house.
Who knows, maybe you can resell some of the stuff for a profit from the shopping carts.
Of course, problem may be getting the supermarket carts

Look for green milkglass (jadite), chrome ashtrays with airplanes, tiny sewing machines (featherweights), china with flowers all over it like wallpaper(English chintz)...
I had a sale today, and this is what hopefuls thought they might find at mine
The descriptive words that were used for what people were hunting for were quite entertaining!...as were the excuses for showing up early.
Fun for awhile, but next time it all goes to auction.

lowprofile,
You don't by chance live in Mill Creek, WA do you?
I have sitters for kids and starting out early. This is an annual event too - about 80% of homes in this are participate and lots of stuff is brought in.
Do you live in Mill Creek - well do ya? If so got a parking spot for sale - well huh - do ya????
I got a big duffle bag suitcase on rollers - will be filling it up - unloading - refilling. Emptied out the car including kids car seats as they are staying home. Had to go to the bank today so that I can take out the max amount and max out tomorrow morning prior to the sale.
This is the 1st year i have gone - it better be good!!
RAINYBEAR or other Seattleites - anyone going - or anyone been?

Look for anything that is rare & is priced $2.00 or less.
(LOL!)
But seriously, if you spend some time searching through some contemporary eBay collectibles buzz-words, doing a completed auction search in descending order of highest price sold for, you will find some truly amazing items, and who knows, these are things from the 1970s & 1980s, so the chance of finding them is not too bad.
Last night I was searching some words like:
She Ra
River Phoenix
Quilting Magazine
BMX Magazine
Just to give you an idea, and there were some really stupendous items at the top of those lists -- gives one some hope anyway, not too many changes of finding good 1870s or 1880s items at the salez!

Here I am all excited about the 56 garage sales in our town tomorrow........I am just green with envy!
We live way out on the edge of the county so when we have a large number like we have in the morning, we drop the truck off at a convenience store about 10 miles from our house, first we fill the SUV, then we take it to the convenience store and lock it up and get the truck.
I use a folding cart too..it work well. We have 5 church sales in the morning, they can be really good. I love garage sale season!

It is snowing and rain in Denver! Anyone that claimed they were having a sale did not bother.
Spring will be back! Spring will be back! Spring will be back!

Folding carts are great but in a pinch a stroller works well too (minus baby). You can cram a LOT of stuff in my daughters baby jogger. :0)
Have fun at your huge sale. WISH I was there.

I put my bike in the back of the truck. It really help getting from house to house.
P.S. Put a not for sale sign on it, as someone, somewhere will surely try to but it.

There's a sale here claims to be 1400 houses. Curious to see if that's a typo...

We have those in our area too.
All you need is to have one driver follow with a vehicule and dump the stuff you buy in it as you go.
Bring, lots of small change. Sellers don't always have it. You lose less time waiting for them to scrounge up change. You can move on to the next sale faster and cover more territory.
Also, bring your water, food, solar cream and wear very comfortable shoes.
Try to figure out which area people are most likely to hit first and last if they come from other towns. Start your day where they won't be likely to begin so you can be first to as many sales as humanly possible.

Sounds like fun. Nothing like that around here. Buy anything that is ugly. Remember ugly sells. Can you really hit all 700 of them? Wow, you won't even be able to stop for a breather, if you know what I mean. Well when is this sale? Please post when you are through able to. After that many sales you will need a footbath. If all of you post your escapades and findings when you are through it will be interesting to read. Lowprofine, ypayretail tells us all your news. Have fun.....

You might be surprised at the number of home owners that are open early, and ready to take your money?
Good Luck!

Your right about that reddeer. Some will probably be open at 6 am. The houses that have to put items on the garage apron will open earlier and then the "dealers" will be there to get the better things. Don't you just hate those pushy dealers . I hope you and lowprofile get their first.

Here is a brief summary - the real story was posted in the roundtable.
BIG WASTE OF TIME*BIG WASTE OF TIME
Approximately 400 homes / 12 miles or so
* Some streets only had one or 2 sales
* Parking was very far away thanks to the police who orange coned the selling neighborhoods.
*Prices were all sky HIGH - one lady even said well, on ebay it goes for twice that. Yea, sure lady - what season etc.etc.etc.
*More food vendors than decent sellers
*Lots of "Oh, hey it is that sale day - let's put out something and see if anyone buys it. When it is sold - let's run back in and put out a couple of more. We actually watched a man sell pair of shoes after pair of shoes - one at a time. Another had two items on the driveway etc. etc.etc.
********************************************
Not turned off by all neighborhood sales but that particular one - will not hit it again.
Very wealthy neighborhood - all with knowledge of what they were selling and 80% of prices were maybe 5% off NEW retail.
If you are in the Seattle area and missed it - you were LUCKY.
The week before my car was full in two hours by stopping at non-advertised sales. This week I took $400 and came back with only 3 things to list and about 3 things to keep.
WASTE OF TIME!!
*Stopped at an un-advertised sale on the way home and picked up a two LIKE NEW crib bumpers for $5 total. They retail for $25 each.

Here is a list of what I got.
Like New Nintendo 64 in box

Sega Genisis Master System with 12 games and Gun. - # of the games are Rare and should get 80 dollars for those alone. - PAID 4.50 USD
Ice Tongs and Bottle opener New in Box with really nice Bakelite Handles..Very nice. PAID 0.60 cents USD
New Stainless Steel Starbucks Travel Mug - Paid 1.50 USD
Dream Machines Ferrari Book Like new by Godfrey Eaton - Paid FREE

Kodak Brownie 8mm Movie Camera with leather case like new - Paid 1.50 USD
From my experience and from Looking at closed Auctions I should make a profit of about 200.00 USD. I was out walking around for about 4hrs. Not Bad ...I was hoping for better..pasted up a few buys which after checking Ebay I should have bought...but that is all part of learning.
Heres a few pictures I took...Just about every house had a sale...about 80% I would say...Total house in the neighbourhood is 750.
It is a quiet place ,,,hardley a car parked on the street but look at the streets today...And check out the weather...Yes it does get Sunny and Hot in Canada!
