At the yard sales today I bought a creamer and sugar set of "ebony" glass. I see little on ebay using that term, though I did find a set in a different pattern. Just wondering, is "ebony" a standard term for very dark, black Depression glass? Or should I be trying to look it up under another term.

You might try holding your piece up to a strong light. Often, what appears to be black is actually a very, very dark purple...called "black amethyst."
If it has a sticker or something calling it "ebony" forget what I just said...

Hi Keziak, I have also heard the term for older back glass referred to as Black milk glass. I checked the ebay searches: current there are 11. Completed 33. Hope this helps.

thanks, all. This gives me something to go by. I was wondering if "ebony" was the owner's word for it, or a "real" term. It's so pretty...I won't mind if I don't even sell it! ; - )
