Just wondered if anyone had any luck at yard sales today? My family went out for our community wide sale and I am thrilled with what I found. Mainly just stuff for the kids but I did buy a box of 38 old hard cover books for myself. 28 are different happy hollisters books and the other 10 are a set titled "The bookshelf for boys and girls" prepared under the supervision of the editorial board of the university society. The books are collections of different types of stories for kids with the tenth book giving an index of all the stories in the books along with advice on everything from pregnancy to dealing with childrens problems. I would say they are all from the 50's. The guy had the whole box marked $10. I bought it for the happy hollisters books because I have most of them I bought when I was younger at a yard sale. I can't wait to go dig out my books and find out how many of these I actually needed. Then I will have to figure out what to do with the rest. LOL

Here I am, driving home from my sons karate class, when I see a small yard sale. Stop in for a second, looking for books, and the lady running the sale is just putting down an old Singer sewing machine that has a cherry base, looks in excellent condition, has needles, thread on wooden spools, the operators manual (from 1954, with the list of minor repairs and dates made in it), discs-EVERYTHING! I ask to plug it in, and it works like new. Ask how much she wants for the item (it's 18" high and 30" long and 12" deep, a personal sewer) and she says "Two bucks, I just need it out of here". Now, it's sitting on my little table, waiting for research.

I did! I did! And I am about to pop wanting to tell someone!
First, I was looking for things to hang on the walls of our new house. I found a great Hallmark "Marjolein" framed picture of a bird's nest that will look superb in our computer room. It retailed for $12.00 and I got it for $1.00.
Also, at the same sale, I found a basket full of purses. I had a feeling about them even though I know little about purses. I bought two (of the eight or nine in the basket) for a great price together! The lady who sold them to me said about one of them, "That one is a REALLY nice designer bag. It was a gift to me and I couldn't find any shoes to match it so I am selling it." I did a search for them on Ebay and I wish I had bought the whole basket of purses! Hindsight is 20/20 though, and I am supremely happy with the treasures that DH and I found today. I think one of these purses is going to DH's mother for Mother's Day or her birthday later this year.
DH also found a (still shrinkwrapped with appropriate authentication marks) new copy of Windows 98. I am so proud of him.
These purses and the Windows 98 alone are going to pay for our electricity and natural gas for the month! Yea!
We also got lots more kids clothes (cartoon characters embroidered) for fantastic prices that we will list soon. This certainly makes up for last week's slim pickings!

Had to run my daughter to the Mall of America for a kids birthday party and was drawn by the irresistable pull of a sign stating "Garage Sale 9-4"
Scanned the tables with my keen ebay eye,and the glint of commercial chrome caught my eye.
A new Vitamixer 3600 with a 25.00 price tag.
A twenty spot took it away, and Dad takes 100.00 minimum for his 3 minute stop.
Keep your eyes peeled, these are usually sold when the novelty wears off and can bring 300+ on ebay (having the recipe book/instructions can add to the value)
They are an industrial strength mixer/blenders that can juice,COOK sauces and soups, and even FREEZE ice cream, they spin so fast.

I am so excited I could scream ! What was shown on the sign was "garage sale - misc items" was really the entire house. I collect a doll called "Gene". Every Gene made was there, including the convention dolls. I bought 26 of them at $15 each. The convention ones regularly sell for $300 and I've never owned one. The convention ones are mine mine mine !!! I also got 3 fur coats - 1 full lenght mink, 1 full length fox (that is to die for if you like fur!) and 1 lynx for $20 each and they all look new. I also found a box of beanies that were all authentic old ones....cranberry teddy, violet teddy, 1st generations, etc. for $50. Of course, I'll have to have those authenticated but I'm not worried...I know my beans ! I also picked up 2 Lladro figurines for my mother ($30 each), a new set of Caphalon cookware in the box (basic pro set) for my sister for $35. I got 3 boxes of car mags and dirt bike mags in fabulous condition for my husband. He just left to pick them up. I picked up some other glass items but I have to research what they are. One is marked "Hawkes" and is just really pretty.
I will never find anything like this sale again. It reminds me of pre ebay.

Today was the neighorhood sales in our ritzy historical district in town. I got started late and don't even want to think about what i missed.
I found a great brass coffee/tea set with tray for $5.00. A Star Wars 45 record keeper full of old records. A great piece of old Fenton. a couple of Chilton car repair manuals.
Stopped at one sale and they had Sega Genesis games, $1.00 each. Someone had stolen 2 of the games though, just left the manuals and empty cases.
Another sale had some great quilting books and games, but they had the price in great big black felt tip numbers on the covers! The man running the sale said he couldn't figure why they hadn't sold, I told him why.
It is a beautiful day here in Ohio though, so all is wonderful.

I'm just sooo excited I could scream!
I spent $27 and got 3 boxes of books (everything from a Lawrence Welk bio to antique books to Care Bears)
Care bears lamp
3 character sleeping bags
2 character sheet sets
1976 Olympics TV guide
some odd ball records
craft supplies
McDonalds worker tie
over 300 greeting card envelopes (I am into sweepstakes and like to use these as entries occasionally)
several cookbooks
awesome cookie jar (to keep)
plus tons of other stuff to keep! I did really well. I'm soooo excited with my finds!
Up until today i have found little things that brought in a little money. But nothing too spectacular.
But today I went to a sale (that I ordinarily would have passed on because it was a really old dirty looking trailer with a bunch of old cars and furniture rotting in the yard) just because it was raining and they were tuffing it out. I know when I have a yard sale I just hate those "drive by"s. So I stopped.
Well it turns out the sale by being done by a young coule who just inherited the old trailer. They were tring to fix things up but needed cash for it. We all know how that goes right?
They had a big shelf of videos matked $4 each or 4/$10. I decided to take a chance and offered $50 for them all (which I can't afford, but the profits will cover my behind). They were very hesitant, but I opened my walletand pulled out a fresh crisp 50. They jumped on it!
Guess how many videos there were? 83!
Some good ones too. Like Willow which sells for near $30 all by itself. And the chronicals of narnia set that sells for around $50.
We will be keeping 26 of them and selling rest. WOOHOO!

We deal in antiques and collectibles so my weekend find is way off base! Went to a sale that had the entire garage packed with square dance outfits and accessories. Bought the whole thing! One slip alone last sold on ebay for over $100! It cost me $5.00.
The transaction was a bit bittersweet tho--the lady was happy to get all that money (About $250) all at one time. But the reason everything was for sale was obvious--she had both legs amputated and could no longer dance. I almost cried but she had a GREAT attitude about it. However, I couldn't tell her that I would be reselling her finery and let her believe that I knew someone her size that would be the best dressed dancer on the floor!
Also picked up some art deco items at another sale--and I usually don't bother with garage sales around here. Guess I will start bothering again!

Wow! Sounds like everyone picked up some great stuff! I love these threads, my family just doesn't understand the thrill of a good GS find. I didn't go out today, but did go out thurs & fri (citywide garage sale!) and got some nice stuff.
Thurs I hit the Gymboree motherlode at two diff. sales, tons of like new stuff (some was brand new w/tags) at very reasonable prices. Also picked up an older Steinbach nutcracker with all tags attached and still in original box for $15.00 (happy dance!), a Johnson Bros. milk pitcher, some Fenton, vintage clz & linens, lots of books, some videos and some other odds and ends, including a really nice Victorias Secret flannel robe for myself.
Friday I wasn't expecting to find much, but the very first sale I hit hadn't been open on thurs and I was the first one there I picked up a number of vintage china teacups (including a lovely footed Napco one I'm keeping), some made in Occupied Japan stuff, two gorgeous handpainted Bavarian plates (keeping those too!), a pretty Royal China teaset, and a dozen older Beanie Babies at $2.00 each. One of those (Libearty) sells for quite a bit, the others all in the $10-$20 range. At another sale I picked up a set (missing a couple of pieces) of Spode Jewel china for $12.50. Lots of other odds and ends incl. some Disney Store Xmas stuff & a couple of NRFB Barbies.
Total spent for both days was just under $200., and should bring well in excess of $1000. on Ebay.
Also today was a citywide garbage pick-up day and there was tons of great stuff people were tossing out. I got a lovely old chair with carved arms and legs, a couple of nice wooden folding chairs and a box of 1970's magazines all for free! I just wish I'd been driving my DH's pick-up, as I had to pass up lots of other fab stuff for lack of space, darn it!

You did good. That was nice what you told that lady. Probably made her day.
I am TRYING to not go to yardsales. Moving soon and just can't buy another thing! Notice I said TRYING...I had to stop at one. It was nearly 1:00 so I figured most of the good stuff would be gone. It wouldn't hurt if I just looked. Well, they had soooo...much GOOD stuff; name brand baby clothes, unused tools (I don't know if they sell on eBay but I like having tools, never know when an unexpected repair comes up), boxes of nice wood picture frames...
I showed refrain and just bought 2 never used trowels...I plan to retile the kitchen.

My pride and joy is a wind up celluloid baby toy. It stands about 10 inches high and has a musical rattle in it. There's a bird on the top and some long tassles hanging down with celluloid discs on them that swing around when it's wound. It wasn't working but DH took it apart and fixed it!!! Now I'm torn between keeping it for a while or listing it right away to see what I'll get for it!

There's a great rummage sale in my area this weekend. Went on Friday and got 4 sheet sets for my queen size bed for $37 (incluing one flannel set.) and a big Roladex for my office for $3(yes, I still use it)
And books and more books for myself and for half.com (stopped selling on ebay for the time being.)
Then today I found a dresser for my son's room free at the curbside! (Townwide clean up week.)

Only three things but......
Two Lp's - one a Dave Brubeck double set and a Dizzy Gillespe Lp. Both were pretty clean and a quarter each.
I found two of those plastic 24 drawer type units, the ones that you put small hardware into, chock full of crafting and beading supplies. A very good lady friend of mine has just started doing beading, so I took a good look, and they only wanted 5 bucks. The thing is, as I was looking thru the drawers, the seller, a lady, asks me if I am interested in it and then offers to lower the price to 2 bucks before I can even reply!

Today was quite good, got a nice underwater spearfishing gun, great condition, that was $15 -- a marked stoneware crock for $7 -- box of Myott Staffordshire dishes, not a complete set but a real nice lot for just $10 -- several good books for .25 or .50 each including a couple that book over $20 on Biblio -- some not bad titles in record lps -- and a very nice hand-painted Nippon dish for $1 -- and nicest item actually was a fine 1930s hand-tinted framed photo of a local scene here in British Columbia, for just a buck!
Hard-pressed to spend $50 on it all & think I'll get at least a couple hundred!

Great stories. My DH (D doesnot stand for dear) hates to stop at garage sales, estate sales or anything else that deals in resale so If there isn't any good sports on TV I am sunk. Well, today I went out bought my usual purchases Jewelry and some really good self help books that are new in great condition. Yes, he sat in the car. Sometimes it would be nice to have two extra hands at a garage or estate sale but he just can't get into this kind of merchandise. He carries his handywipes with him. It does keep my checkbook full though and he should appreciate that. Tomorrow the Bucks are on TV so maybe I will hit a few sales.

My friend and I got an early start today and hit about 30 g.s. and 2 church rummage sales. I picked up a box of free books at one of the rummage sales. Some stained glass and stained glass books. I found golfing videos, Levi kahkis, and the cutest little Buchase teapot, Some kids books and a Richard Simmons Food Mover system. I also got a couple of F.P Little People and a pair of grey suede cowboy boots for $1.00. My find of the day was handprinted hawiian fabric for $.25! Nothing will top last weeks box of books though. I bought an entire box of books for a $1.00 and after I got home and went through them I found two huge marjianna leaves pressed in a 1970's ham radio book. Strangest thing.

There was only one sale this weekend, so after I dropped the kids off at school I headed for it.
When I stopped there, the woman was sitting there all set up and I amazingly was the first one there.
I picked up an Imperial Glass Carnival footed bowl in amethyst for $4.00, 2 Murano glass items for $4.00 each, an old woven bedspread in excellent shape for $3.00, a Sony hand held TV like new for $3.00, a wrought iron plate rack for $5.00, 2 Marlboro Zippo lighters for $1.00 each, 3 aprons for .10 each, 4 Pyrex refrigerator dishes with lids for $1.00, etc. I was thrilled. I hope they do well.

I am selling as much as poss. on ebay and saving the big/heavy stuff for a garage sale probably in July. That is when I will put the house up for sale. I figure if buyers see the "house for sale" sign in the front yard they will be more inclined to stop.
From readings on AW I know to advertise, put out alot of street signs/directions (and to remove them when sale is over), and to end sale when I advertise sale is to end; not earlier.

rarriffle where in Ohio are you? I am in Fairborn and find a lot of great sales around here.
Lets see this weekend, I only went to a few sales. On Thursday, I got a ton of Gymboree and Gap clothing for $20, A NIB Toastmaster sandwich maker for $5 and a oster blender for $5. I plan to list the clothes and the rest is for me =o) On Friday, I hit a great sale. The woman was selling gymboree and gap and some other name brand clothing for $0.10 each! Of course she didn't have everything priced and I didn't know that *everything* was $0.10 until I paid. I got about 25 almost new gymbo and gap outfits for $3. Not a bad weekend at all. Now to just find a local goodwill and I will be set ! BTW we just moved here, so I am trying to find some good thrift stores to shop at.

peekaboo, I am just east of columbus, in Newark, Ohio. I even saw a car for sale. $100.00 and all it needed was a tune up. We all had our mouths open when a man asked what was wrong with it and the woman told him to start it up and take it around the block if he wanted. We just assumed that at that price it didn't run at all.
