I am the only person who has access to this computer. Not even my husband is allowed to touch it.
I haven't bought anything for months on eBay but this morning I wanted to bid on an item. I entered my proxy bid and then went to the page to confirm the bid. Another person's User ID was already filled in, along with (I presume) their password! I do have the "remember my ID and password" box checked on that page.
I didn't enter my correct User ID and password because this totally freaked me out. I went to another computer here in the house to see what happened and the confirmation just came up blank on that one.
The person whose ID came up has been a member for almost a year, has 92 positives, 1 neutral and 0 negatives. I checked her bidding history and she has not bid on any items since April 22nd. She has not bid on any auctions from the seller that I was planning to bid on in the first place.
I have reported this to eBay. However, it brings to mind the stories we sometimes hear from buyers who claim someone stole their password and bid on these items. This is too weird.

WOW!! That is bizarre!!!
Have you ever seen the 6th sense? Maybe this was an ebay addict who has been no longer with us since April 22nd, but doesn't know they are dead and have been wandering around looking for a computer that is on and has continued looking around on ebay....... Maybe your computer was one he/she chose.....
I am watching WAY too much sci fi/horror, methinks! Then again, who really knows....
Geez, I've scared myself!!
You may want to let eBay know in case their stuff is starting to act squirrly again. I've been having trouble all evening with feedback profiles.

Something similar happened to me. I was at my daughters and she has webtv. I went into auction watch and it said welcome Libra63. Now how did auctionwatch know it was me, I hadn't signed in. I am still puzzled and I will never know. Maybe it was a full moon..

I just thought.... my "explanation" would give a whole new meaning to the term "dead-beat bidder"..... hehehe
Libra63 - maybe she has signed in as you at some point? Maybe you should change your password...

I have yet to hear back from eBay, but I expected that to take some time. I have thought about e-mailing the person and asking them if I could try to bid on something and then have them cancel the bid if it actually went through. However, they already have 2 bid retractions in the last 30 days (6 in 6 months) and I didn't want their record to look any worse. I guess I'll just sit back and wait for eBay.

That happened to me once a year ago. Ebay basically denied it could happen, and said I had left my ID there. DUH!! It was NOT my ID, and it was just sitting there when I brought Ebay up. In fact, it was not just there, I was logged on as this person!!
Again, only I access this computer, and my kids are young, so they would have no clue.
Good luck getting an explanation. I'd love to hear it )

Of course, the simplest answer is that someone in your family *has* been using your computer, despite being told they aren't allowed to...

Anything is possible.
A year or so back & logged into MY eBay & came up with another sellers MY eBay. The whole enchilada came up for me, including all of the reserve prices etc.
When I asked an eBay rep what the hell was going on I was told that is was some sort of "crossover" or some such thing, and that once in a blue moon it could happen. At the same time I noticed this was happening to a few other people who were posting on the various eBay boards.

bunnicula: With that scenario, my husband would have had to sign up for Microsoft Network and be logging on using a woman's name. You have to know my husband, but he is not that clever.

I just heard from eBay and their response was a long, boring e-mail telling me how to clear my cache. I guess they just don't care about possible security breaches.
I guess I will just e-mail the user and make her aware of the situation.

This used to happen to me at Yahoo and has a couple of times happened to me at BidVille. It is very scary as I wonder how many times my name has come up for others.

It has never happened to me before on the auctions, but it has happened when I logged into work on my homepage once.
I don't know how or why it happened, but someone elses file manager came up on my screen! I guess I could have done just about anything I wanted to to her homepage. I had full access to all her files.
It was kinda scary.
