I just bought an item from a newbie Canadian seller. In my reply to his EOA I inquired about customs. He replied that he doesn't think that there is any duty on antiques (older than 50 years).

Does anyone know if this is true as I'm a bit skeptical?

Thanks!

edited to say that I'm in the US.

Tell your seller to clearly mark the Customs form:

"Antique Over 100 Years Old"

If it is indeed over 100 years old, as 100 years is the US Customs definition of an Antique, not 50 years. If it's over 100 years of age, there will be no Duty.

Thanks Reddeer. It's not 100 years old. I'll ask him to use the regular form.

Kathy

There's only one form the seller can use, either a CN22 or a CN23,depending on the weight & size of the parcel.
FYI - As the Importer you are responsible for this item once it lands in the USA.

Here's some fun reading.

http://www.customs.ustreas.gov/impoexpo/impoexpo.htm

If you scroll down the page, you'll find an area on Internet Transactions.
