I am both a seller and a buyer at eBay...probably about 3/4 of my feedback rating of well over 1000 is as a seller. While I don't worry much over whether someone leaves me feedback since I believe that my current numbers are "high" enough for "respect" at eBay, I find it important particularly as a seller to leave feedback as those who buy from me often have relatively low feedback numbers and...frankly becuase it is just polite to leave feedback for someone if they have paid..or as a seller have delivered promptly the item they promised.

With that said, I just checked the feedback "left" of a seller with a high feedback rating. He has been left almost flawless feedback...more than 1000 individual feedbacks, is a current active seller though usually not more than 50 or so items at a time...and more than 500 of those feedbacks have been left to him in the past 6 months.

Yet, to my surprise, I discovered that he had not left any feedback since late 1999! Particularly surprising to me since I have usually found that consistent sellers leave much more feedback than they receive. (I probably have left nearly twice the number of individual feedbacks than I have received for example.)

I guess I have gone on rather long here...but any ideas on how to "politely" suggest that he might consider resuming the giving of feedback? Have any of you done that to others...and with what success?

Thanks for any suggestions.

My suggestion would be not to suggest ANYTHING. It's his business and he has the right to run it any way that he sees fit within the guidelines set forth by ebaY and the law.

I can remember when I was a buyer only and had a low feedback in the 40s, I bought an item from someone with a feedback in 4 digits and they did not leave me feedback.

After I had left them feedback I waited a couple of weeks and e-mailed them asking if they had forgotten to leave my feedback. They answered no, that they didn't leave feedback anymore.

I quickly zapped them back an e-mail, more or less telling them that apparently they had forgotten how it was when they first started on eBay and the importance of receiving feedback while attempting to establish their selling reputation. In short, I told them that not leaving feedback was their decision, but that I would not buy from them again because feedback was important to me.

I received an e-mail back from them saying that they had reconsidered their stand on leaving feedback and would now start exchanging feedback again. Too late for me, I crossed them off my "be sure to occasionally check this seller" list.

I guess I view feedback as a part of customer service and if they can't take the time to leave feedback, then how good is their other customer service?

Hi,
I am a long term lurker, but I have never posted. My husband and I sell on ebay and have been for a couple of years now with a feedback rating of over 500.

I feel compelled to respond, because if one looked at the feedback we had left a week ago, it would have looked like we only had left 247. It also would have looked like we had not left feedback in over a year.

We had never looked at this before this past week and were shocked to discover that the link was not picking up all of the feedback we left. We emailed ebay and they fixed this in a matter of 72hrs.

Please don't assume this seller is not leaving feedback! They may not check this and they may have the same problem we had.

Not RNMOM on Ebay.

Feedback is totally up to the user... ebay does not require that a buyer or seller leave any. Many sellers leave it as soon as payment is received. Others wait until the buyer has received the item and is happy. Some users will not leave any feedback until feedback is left for them.

Others NEVER leave any feedback.

I bought an $300 item from a seller with a positive feedback of over 200 positives. After the deal was complete, I checked feedback left and was surprised to see they had only left one, and it was a neg.

I sent an email asking for them to leave me a positive as I was happy with the transaction and they had shipped safely.

They responded by saying the were too busy selling they did not have time to leave feedback for anyone. I responded to them that there are many sellers with feedback in the 1000's that find the time to leave feedback.

This seller's response was that if I email them again about feedback they would be happy to leave me a negative.

One can check out both seller and bidder and see if they leave feedback or not. If not, then leave nothing for them.

They are too busy? That is no excuse.

Dennis Prince has an interesting article about feedback running right now at the link I provided.

Sounds like this seller's been messed with one too many times and wants to leave his/her options open to only leave retaliatory negs. Are there many negs in the person's feedback history? I'm not sure I'd deal with this seller either. brie49 makes a good point about comparing it to their Customer Service.

RNMOM - At least as to the seller in question, it would not appear that his "left" feedback is not being picked up in that link. A check of those who have left feedback for him, including myself, indicates that there is no feedback left for them on their feedback list.

marble - In this case, the seller in question has absolutely no negative feedbacks...so the reason he is not leaving feedback is not due to the concerns you are rasing.

In any event thanks for sharing some of the experience that some of you have had.
