We have a package which exceeds all normal (UPS, USPS, Etc.) shipping guidelines. The package is 32x32x32 and weighs about 25 pounds. We have a box so we don't need to have it crated. Anyone know of a way to ship this without costing the buyer an arm and a leg?

We know about Craters & Freighters but were hoping for something less expensive.

Thanks all!

I have never done it but I know that Greyhound Bus use to take packages on occasion. Someone of course would have to pick it up at the bus station.

Also, I have no idea about the cost but try a moving company. If they are going to the area and have room alot of times they will take stuff too.

One more idea is check with the airlines. But I think they are on the high price side. It never hurts to ask.

Good luck!

Thanks fellow insomniac; RichieRich LOL!!

Checked into Greyhound.com and boy are they ever cheap!! We are talking $31 from Athens, GA to Gilroy, CA! It takes a little more effort as both the buyer and we do not live in a town with a Greyhound station but it is definitely worth it for such a SUBSTANTIAL savings!

Thanks so much for the tip! That was awesome!!!

I have been using Greyhound for the past two years. It is the best way to send items. I am seriously considering using it for all large items whether UPS or FedEx could take it, due to the problems with damage with those two carriers.

Greyhound has NEVER damaged any item I have sent. They are fast, reasonable and very convenient.

I recommend them highly and they really should advertise that service of their's much more.

They have an online website where you can get online quotes to help you out as well. www.greyhound.com

Just remember some parts of the country their insurance is limited to $300. In that case you could always use WebInsure to make up the difference or just self insure.

Thanks Xena! We were wondering what to do about the $300 limitation on Greyhound's insurance. Webinsure is a Great Idea!

From the dimensions that you list, this is just an oversize package according to UPS. You just have to pay the 30 pound rate on it.

Also, the PO will take packages up to 130 inches total combined, so it could still go parcel post as well.

All of the info is available at www.usps.com.

FEDEX also takes larger packages than UPS/USPS does, for MUCH less than a standard shipping company. I haven't checked since they acquired RPS and turned them into fedex-ground, but I would think they could only have gotten better in that regard.

By the way, aren't the "size limitations" by UPS and USPS measured as "length plus girth", which in this case would be 32 + (4 X 32) = 160?

Captainkirk's calculation of 160" was the reason it was a "no-go" at UPS and USPS. We also tried Fedex but the rates we got back from their website made it more economical for us to book a flight to California and push the 32 inch square box into the overhead!

Thanks for all the great ideas! looks like Greyhound is still in the lead. This really has opened up a world of possibilities for us as we ship a lot of large items and, as we all know, the s/h/i is definitely taken into consideration when bidders bid.

When you check FedEx, you need to choose the "FedEx Ground" option. I shipped a 40 lb. box, 40" x 22" x 22" from AZ to NM for $16.00!

WHERES THE TO AND FROM POINT? Maybe an Ebayer will take it. Vacation time you know.

unfortunately, now fedex ground follows the same size limitations as ups/usps.

Greyhound, here I come!
