I'm somewhat of an eBay newbie, I've only been selling for about a month. I've received a couple of payments with PayPal in which the buyer doesn't include a confirmed address. I understand that if you ship to someone that does not supply a confirmed address then you are not protected by PayPal.

Just wondering, is this relatively normal, to receive payments with no confirmed address like this from PayPal? Am I just being overly paranoid???

So far I've been selling lower-end items, this item happens to be a higher, more valuable item for me ($66).

Thanks for the help.

Did they pay with a Credit Card or funds from their account??

It says the funding type is credit card, and the sender of payment is "verified".

If you are uncomfortable with it why don't you set your Paypal preferences to hold accepting the payments.

You can choose Yes or No/ or you have the option to decide on each purchase.

That is how my account is set up right now... I have to either accept or deny each payment from unconfirmed addresses. I'm just wondering if it would be pretty safe to to just accept them or pretty dangerous. I don't want to get ripped off by someone who used a stolen credit card!

Just bumping the thread up... No one really responded, and I know you guys and gals have experience with this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I always accept payments from buyers with no verified addres for 2 reasons:

1) The verified address is the billing address of the buyer's credit card. If they don't have a credit card registered with PayPal for whatever reason, there can be no verified address. I won't discriminate against a large pool of buyers just because PayPal has set up such a ridiculous set of hoops for buyers and sellers to jump through to be covered under their "protection plans".

2) PayPal's buyer and seller protection plans are pretty much worthless, which is why reason #1 above exists.

Hi,

I can look at the transaction for you , but it does sound like the transaction was funded from either a balance or bank account (which would not release the address). The user is verified, so it is a pretty solid indicator of their identity.

The Buyer and Seller Protection Programs do work and I can actually point dubyasdaman to threads on another site if he is interested. The Buyer Protection Program can't always do recovery and the Seller is always protected from charge backs if the follow the details of the Seller Protection Progra. Please feel free to review the details on the web site.

Yeah, if the person is a "verified member" it seems a lot safer.

damon: Some people are just horribly misguided. Nuff said!

Whenever I use Paypal for paying for a item I don't use a confirmed address.Because Paypal won't confirm my address because I don't have a Visa card I use Discover. And I don't want to get a Visa card just to keep Paypal happy.
