We have a HP Scanjet 3200c and it takes about 45 sec to 1 minute to scan....Due to the volume of items we want to sell...We need something faster...We sell mostly papaer items and are suited more towards a scanner rather than a digital cam.
So...How fast is your scanner?
I have heard that Epson's are the way to go.....Opinions,Please.

Scans at 45 seconds are pretty good. I've found with the HP scanner I use that the SCSI makes it very fast but the processing is the part that slows it down.

HP 7400c claims it scans in as few
as 4 seconds, and it might, for
200dpi scans. I have one. The
FIRST scan takes a lot longer than 4
seconds, but after that, they do go fast.

HP does make some of the faster scanners (their web site compares scan times between models), but of course you have to pay - instead of "free after rebate" like the 3200c I got, its more like hundreds and hundreds of dollars, so make sure you really need the speed before paying for it (like anything else). When I have a lot of scans to do on my (slow) scanner, I just arrange to be doing something that allows me to let the scanner do its thing and then I come back to it at my convenience.

But it all depends on how many scans you want to do per hour/day?

Torley,

I posted this in another scanner thread some time ago. Scanner tests and comparasions show the Epson 1240U to be the fastest scanner by a wide margin. The quality of the scans is outstanding and the included software is very easy to use.

I recommend the Epson 1240U. I purchased one 3 months ago and of the 5 that I have have owned previousley, this is by far the best and fastest. I have scanned several thousand pages with it and have had 0 problems. It connects through a USB port and will work with a PC or Mac. I paid $163.00 for mine they are now $151.00 here:

I agree that the Epson Perfection 1240 U is the fastest I have used. I paid about $250-$299, but it was worth every penny about 4 months ago. It may be cheaper now, but when I bought it I had trouble finding it in the local stores - had to go to 3 different ones to find it. You need USB connection to use it. I bought a USB 4 port hub & it is great!
