Lookin' thru eBay for an item that is easy to find & sold by a whole bunch of sellers, I came across the following message on a couple of auctions with different sellers, directly below the "Bidding is closed for this item":
The seller ended this listing early to sell to the high bidder(s) at current bid price
My best guess is that the seller closed the auction (for whatever reason) without cancelling outstanding bids first....But this is a new one for me...anyone else come across this message????....

I was running several auctions a week ago and I closed one early that had a nice high bid, and the same message appeared on the auction after it closed. Means exactly what it says, I closed the auction early, and the item went to the high bidder at the current price when the auction was closed. I did not forget to cancel bids, I just wanted the auction to close early as i had other commitments to attend, thus, the message. any questions? would be happy to answer.

Wow! I've never seen that in a auction. Would that not be a good ploy to get people to bid earlier and higher? Put in your auctions: I reserve the right to end this auction early and sell to the highest bidder at the time. Would Ebay allow this? Then you could end the auction early or just let it ride out at your option.

Ebay has always allowed this you can end an auction at any time, if you don't cancel the bids it's a valid sale.
Nothing wrong with that especially if you had a situation arise where you needed to go out of town or had an emergency.

gs4, nope wasn't a bin.....jerseylily, I'm pretty sure these weren't your auctions, unless you sell under several IDs, and closed dutch auctions with no where near the total amount sold....BTW, I have absolutely no problem with anyone ending their auctions early (less of course I'm waitin' to snipe ) whatever their reasons, but in this case this was an eBay generated comment that I (after doin' this for 3 years) have never seen...just wonderin' if I need to update the glasses perscription is all
Paintpower & jrb3, a while back (year or so) there was one (maybe more) seller who used to actually post in their auctions that they reserved the right to close 'em up at their discretion, and that those interested should bid early & high cause you just don't know when the auction will end....If I remember correctly, it was pretty effective!
