I received a lot of videos that just smell horribly of cigarette smoke. I removed the videos from their sleeves and used the lids off zerox paper cases to carefully set the videos inside a plastic bag of cat litter. That worked fine for the videos themselves but nothing has worked for the paper sleeves. I even put cat litter inside each sleeve and placed them in a bag with even more cat litter. Any ideas on how to remove this extremely strong cigarette smoke smell from paper and lightweight cardboard?

Hi campbanana,

I don't know if you can do this - it might be hard if you're in a city, but just putting them outside in the fresh air will do wonders.

Good luck!

I would be very carefull with the litter around the videos and there cases.

cardboard will tend pick up the odor of the area its stored in quickly the liter the card board the fasts it obsorbs.

so say you put your video cover in a plastic contaner with a lid with say a few storg sented dryer sheets or like a rag with musk on it or perfume .

I heard this on a TV auction program. They said that if you have an old trunk that smells, just put newspaper inside it and close the lid for a few days and the newspaper will absorb the odor. Newspapers in a plastic bag or in a glass container with your video covers might work. Or you might try charcoal [the kind you buy in boxes for fish aquariums instead of newspaper].. put the charcoal in a little uncovered dish [I use glass dishes] and put the dish and the video covers in a plastic bag or a larger glass container for a few days. Some other ideas I have heard to absorb odors, [but not tried] is to cut a yellow onion in half and put it in a glass container with the items that smell, leave it overnight. The onion is supposed to absorb odors. Another idea, go to the Discovery Channel website [Discovery.com] and go to the program "Home Matters" --they've had an expert on the program a few times who has shown how to clean various problems. Also, check the GHTV.com site for Marry Ellen's program --she specifically talks daily about how to solve house hold cleaning problems. If all else fails do a search for odor removal and experts.
Hope this helps JS
