Can someone tell me what the free online payment services are? I know about Yahoo's Paydirect, which is free for now. I thought I heard about another one, but can't recall where or the name. THANKS in advance.

Edited to add: Also interested in services that charge the buyer, not the seller, if there are any.

Hi, here are ones that I know of:

(1) C2it.com - (Haven't used it yet but am signed up and believe it is free to sellers)

(2)Achex.com

(3)Ecount.com - They charge you $1 to withdraw your money each time, that's it. If you request a check once a month it will only cost $1 per month

(4)Bidpay.com - Buyer pays with CC and Bidpay mails you a MO in the mail. Free to seller, $5 minimum charge to buyer (great for international transactions)

There used to be about 10 different payment methods I accepted, but it's down to these and Billpoint now.

Paydirect is still free but they changed their TOS so that you can't charge anything until they verify your account through snail mail which can take up to a week. It's hard to get someone to use it now unless they already have an account.

I have people using paydirect all the time and new ones joining up every week. They don't mind waiting if I don't mind waiting. That is for paydirect to deposit something into their account to verify. That is all they need to do they don't need to verify via snail mail.

The mail thing is only for people that want premuim protection and mostly for sellers. Here is what one needs to do to open an account.

<<When you provide ABA routing and account number information for your checking or savings account, we'll make two deposits between $0.01 and $0.99 to your account(s). Once those deposits have cleared, we will send you an email asking you to confirm the amount of those deposit amounts with your financial institution. Next time you log on to PayDirect, you'll need to tell us the amount of the deposits we made to your account. Once you have done this, you can authorize transfers of funds from your bank account to your PayDirect account.

I have been using paydirect from the get go and I love it. I use it on Yahoo and Ebay. and now that they have a website opition I might use it there also instead of CC now.

I have spent lots of time calling, emailing and even meeting with the payment services to discuss users' concerns. There is a lot of information about how these services operate that you don't find in their terms. Right now, my #1 pick is C2it (one of the services with whom I met). It takes 5 minutes to sign up. Sellers are protected from fraudulent credit cards and false charge backs. The terms don't quite say it all because Citibank is a real bank and as such, has to stick with boilerplate terminology. But from my conversations with them I know that the protection is far better than what is stated. There are also some scary messages about how they will share your information unless you write them. This was lifted from the information they mail when you apply for a credit card. Don't worry about it. When you sign up, there are check boxes that let you select what you allow them to share.
I have detailed information about the other payment services but the moderators won't let me post the link, so you can email me or visit my site and the link is on the home page.

Thanks I'll have to re-read the TOS. Last week I had three people try and sign up and they all told me they had to wait "for something in the mail". I called customer service and they said they changed it since there was too much fraud. So it sounds like they added something similiar to Paypal where a person is verified at your option.

ExecutiveGirl: I would like to sign up for some of these other payment services (Achex and Ecount mostly), but I would like to know what you're personal experiences are with them.

Also, please let me know which payment services you don't accept that you used too. Why don't you accept them anymore.

Please let me know! Thx!

Jonathan

Hi jonathan,

I've had very good luck with both Achex and Ecount. I haven't had a whole lot of customers who use either one, but the ones that have, the transactions have been flawless. I actually wish more people would use them.

The other payment method that I used to accept was Paypal - but NO MORE. I do not like their sneaky tactics and had nothing but problems with them when I DID have an account with them.

Some of the other payment methods I used to accept are no longer in service.

I use to accept Yahoo's PayDirect but don't anymore. As long as there are no problems, they were great. But what I found out, is if you have a problem......don't count on them for anything. Luckily, I found out what a lot of people don't know before I incurred a major loss. And some here think that PayPal is sneaky and underhanded....

ExecGirl:
I will be signin up for Achex and Ecount soon. Sounds good. I wish more of my buyers would pay via those two instead of PayPal. I don't like the PayPal fees!

Jonathan

P.S. How do I add a signature to my messages?
