For a long time I went along with eBay on the "only a venue" train of thought, until just now a HUGE lightbulb went off above my heard, nearly burned me!
Correct me if I wrong, PLEASE, but isn't a truer "venue" my local TV station? They are paid by the "seller" to advertise their wares or services.
I HIGHLY doubt my local tv or radio station for that matter either, offers an "Insurance" policy to the end user of these wares or services if in fact that user does not get the service or ware. Do they?

No, they don't but my radio station sure has one helluva disclaimer these days. I sometimes listen to a local Saturday morning "Swap Shop" where listeners call in to "buy, sell, trade or give away." They also advertise their yard sales. I've tuned in occasionally for years. Just recently, they have started taking the first 5-10 minutes at the top of each hour for the DISCLAIMERS. I mean you just would not believe how long and detailed these disclaimers have gotten to be. I should tape it and give you the transcript. They don't handle this, they don't handle that, any warranty expressed or written is between the buyer and the seller and not the responsibility of the radio station, and on and on and on!
Screw eBay, I'm going to go to law school! (just kidding)

They're only "just a venue" when they want to be "just a venue," such as when problems occur.
But when it comes to taking credit for the wonderful things you can buy and sell, they're not "just a venue" anymore. They're the place to be, the answer to everything, and ain't they special.
