Thanks to all who sent me things to try to solve my problems way back in April (I was gone 5weeks to AZ) and came back to the same old OExpress problem.....Did my best to solve..finally reached my ISP at 1:00am today and a part of my Connection was changed
by a Tech guy...plus he had me go thru the ADD/REMOVE & REPAIR of IEx and said that should clear it all up.......Today I am still getting...'this prog w/be shutdown', every time I try Outlook EXPRESS..
...and...MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module MSHTML.DLL at 015:70ceeb99......plus 8 Registers!!!
Any suggestions? I'm ready to change ISP if necessary. Dana ....PS. Will come back to check this topic since I can't receive and answers by EMAIL

Hi,
I remember you! I had the same problem. I had this problem with MSN, now I have Earthlink and it still did it. Nothing I did helped. I use Microsoft Outlook and it doesn't close down like Outlook Express did. Maybe you should try Eudora or some other email program, you don't want to use internet mail if you don't have to it is too slow. You can dowload some version of Eudora for free. Go to zdnet.com and go to the downloads section and do a search for email programs.

Dear helpful friends, You aren't going to believe this but after reaching a 3rd Tech-guy on my 'new' Earthlink ISP, I finally got my Outlook Express Email to work. I had gone to a Senior Center and looked at my Email there, and there were 86 being held there...Grrrrr..notified Earthlink and so far my problem is resolved. Thanks to all who gave me things to try when this all started.
I learned a lot along the way. Sincerely, Dana71

I have used OE for several years now, and rarely have problems with it, hence my guess is the problems you're having relate to Earthlink.

My ISP was bought by Earthlink recently, so when I converted over I installed the (in this case Mindspring) software they sent me to set up my connection, mail, etc. I started having occasional crashes. I'm convinced that there's something in their software that doesn't set well with my computer configuration. I never click on the icon that's installed with their software, and there's one .exe application that I think is theirs that loads automatically when I start up, which I close before starting any work on the computer.

In the details AREA ....MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module MSHTML.DLL at 015f:70ceeb99 .......((I think that changes sometimes, depending which area I am in)...I don't know much about finding the things you asked about.OPERATING SYSTEM...GEN'L HARDWARE....
and supposedly I have IE5 and OE5. Would it be best if I have a qualified local Technician come here and get it all corrected

Hello dana71. I hope you had a good time in Arizona. It sure is great to be able to get out of the cold weather for a while.

I think your Outlook Express problem is related to one of two things. Either you don't have enough memory OR you need to upgrade your video driver. If you can't upgrade your driver you can try to change the number of colors in your video display to see if that helps.

Go to your START button and then scroll up to and click on the SETTINGS tab. Click on the CONTROL PANEL tab and then double click the DISPLAY icon to view your settings. Choose the SETTINGS tab in the DISPLAY PROPERTIES and under the COLORS section move the settings to 256 colors. See if this helps. If not, you will need someone to help you check your memory and/or update your video card or video driver in your DISPLAY ADAPTERS located under the SYSTEM icon on the CONTROL PANEL.

Blanche

Edited to add: I can help you check on your video driver update or your computer's memory if you don't know how to do this but I won't be available until later this evening. If the 256 color setting doesn't help just post back and I'll try to lead you through the other options when I can get back online.

Are you using Netscape? When I started receiving those messages not only in Outlook Express but in quite a few other instances. I call the Tech Help for my Computer and he said it was in the soft ware. I had it many times and it would shut down my computer. Now back to Netscape. One night I was on my computer and I received a notice from Compaq if I wanted a new upgrade of course I didn't read the upgrade and I said yes. Well they promptly deleted my Netscape and I had to resort to Internet Explorer. I called my ISP and told them so they sent me new Netscape which I haven't loaded yet because using Internet Explorer I have not had maybe one illegal operations. On your computer can you use IE and if you can try that for awhile. When you get the box that says illegal operation click the box and see what the message is, then maybe you can find out what it is. One more thing. If you are using netscape go to their website and see what they say. Good Luck

Isn't MSIMN the internet [i]messaging[/g] program? (instant messaging). That's not the same thing as your email. I've had a couple of problems with that since I installed it from Microsoft's Windows Update page -- a mistake, since I never use it anyway.

You can get help from Microsoft, and I would provide a link, but need to know:

<b>Which OPERating system do you use: Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME?</b> When you start your computer up, there should be a big splashscreen that has the Windows logo on it and will say which operating system it is.

Once that information is available, one of us can find the exact link to go to Microsoft and you can send them a note quoting the error message. I've had very good service from them in the past with a Java script problem I was having.

To bhearsch and islander: I hate using this forum which is for EBAY problems, but you have been so good to me here. Is there a way to give you my Email address without posting it here to continue contact?......
I am a 73 year youngster, and as you can tell
I am 'goingslow'..........I have done some of the things suggested so I'll list what I know so far...... I have Windows 98, and s/b on IE5 and OE5, but as Islander noted, it appears I am on MSIMN for messages (the error message refers to MSIMN).............
and I don't know how to check this or correct.......I did check the color settings(was on 256) and under Display Adapters it is set at SIS5597/5598 (if this refers to my area code, mine is 55987).....Memory is 80% free.....,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I repeat that I am now getting and able to send Emails, but MSIMN error shuts me down a lot. Hi dana, when you get an illegal operation box come up, DO NOT close it right away, which will immediately sign you off.

This box is trying to tell you where the problem is. Click on the DETAILS box and it will list where it detects a problem.

Whatever it says, write it down, and when blanche gets back, she will guide you further. Good luck

brie49..tell Blanche ...I found a way to look at O.E. Properties and under the GeneralTab It shows OE as.........
MS-dosnameutlook (squiggle mark)1.LNK.....
and under a 'shortcut tab' it shows....
Target is....C:\programfiles\outlookexpress\MSIMN EXE.................PS. Don't know how to make the 'squiggle mark', and another question...some of these programs are checked 'Read-only' and some are 'Archive'-
which should they be?....Thanks, Dana

I had the same problem some time ago. I was constantly getting the message ( this program has preformed an illegal operation and will be shut down) It kept getting worse till I could do nothing without getting the message. When it happened I had to restart then hold my breath till it happend again! I ended up doing a total restore to clear it out. What was happening was a program that runs in the background was messing it up and this was triggered by all these pop up ad's. the program is called backweb agent. And it is constantly searching, and will open any program that comes along. You can disable backweb agent, or you can install a program that kills popup ad's instantly not allowing them to open. This was avalible at TechTV.net or ZDTV.net

Dana,
I had similar problems since January when I downloaded IE5 and my ISP was purchased by Onemain and then Earthlink.

I have a Windows NT workstation so it may be a little different but I found that IE5 has an upgrade or "fix" I downloaded from Microsoft that helped a little.

Earthlink is the main problem. I sometimes have delays of a day before my mail gets to me. I can check this by sending myself a test email from my Yahoo mail account.

If you get a smart tech support person at Earthlink they can reconfigure your settings which will help a little. It took me a month of complaining and they finally came through with the "correct" change, but lots of poor fixes in the process. This ISP blames everything else on the problems. Your mail is most likely going through at least two, maybe three mail servers before it gets to you. In my case we found that their link between their modem and the server was intermittently working and sometimes it was down. I had days when I couldn't get online at all.

I would change ISP in a minute if I didn't have my customers from Ebay and my web site using my old Teleport email address. But Onemain and Earthlink are not good providers nor do they have the equipment to support the vast numbers of email accounts they recently purchased.

Good luck and I hope you have lots of patience, you are going to need it.

Dana71, I think you may have found your problem, at least I hope so.

You should have two Outlook Express folders. One is located under C:\PROGRAM FILES and the other is under C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities...\Microsoft. BOTH of these should not have checks next to any of the attribute boxes located at the bottom of the General Tab. They should not be marked READ-ONLY or ARCHIVE or HIDDEN.

You need to fix this by going to your START button which is usually located at the bottom of your screen on your toolbar. Then scroll up to FIND and place your cursor over it and move over to FIND FILES AND FOLDERS and click on it. Then type in Outlook Express in the NAME AND LOCATION BOX under NAMED and be sure that Drive_c (C: ) is chosen under LOOK IN, check the box that says INCLUDE SUBFOLDERS and then press the FIND NOW button. When the list comes up look for the two yellow folders that match the location of the ones mentioned above. To do this you can right click on the folder and then choose PROPERTIES. Uncheck all of the ATTRIBUTE boxes for both folders and then shut down your computer and restart. Only do this for the two folders located in C:\PROGRAM FILES and C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities...\Microsoft.

If this doesn't help then I think we should take this to email as you suggested so post back and let me know if it worked or not and, if necessary, I'll email you with some other procedures.

Greengate: Thanks for the comment. I am right on the 'edge' of going to our local
ISP that will give me instant "on' for the internet, speed, in home techsupport, and FREE-UP my telephone line!!! Can't beat that, but I
still would like to solve this problem just because I'm not a quitter. Dana71

bhearsch...Can't say I didn't try!!! Found I have 7 Outlook Express folders ! All with di iff. dates. Right clicked on each and no boxes were checked on any...In the same row, the second folder would not open by right click so I tried to put C:\windows\application data\identities...\microsoft.
in, instead of outlook express in FindNow ,and it couldn't be found. Does that give you a clue? (was that last 'dot' after Microsoft to be included?) It looked like it in your prev. msg....I tried it both ways,, with and without..............Should I send my Email address via my next msg, or do you know how to reach me? Dana

I had the same problem, the only way to clean this up is to call your computer company, have the tech clear out your system with all it's programs. That's right, everything in your system will need to be taken out and re-installed. Something in your autoexec in missing or deleted. I had the same problem. For weeks all I did was ask people how to get out of the problem. Nobody really knew. I called my gatewy tech, in two hours are was back-up with outlook express.

Make sure you backup all your word, excel and other important doc. Good Luck.
