Well i was having problems with the gallery, I would list in the gallery and the product would only show up in the word search but not in the catagory. I contacted ebay and asked them why this was happending. They emailed me back and told me this

When you list your product in the gallery, you need to list it in the gallery section and also the website section. This is the area that you put your www for the picture on ebay auctions and the picture shows up on the bottom of the auction. I was not really convinced about what they had to say. My auctions had my own templates in them so that the picture would be on the top. Well i listed 20 auction last night and did what ebay said and added the picture to the URL so that the picture would be on the bottom of the auction as well. And guess what ??? Every single auction is showing up in the catagory

Not bad Ah

With regard to the box at the bottom of the listing: You don't have to use this for your item pic. You can put anything you want in there, and the little camera icon will show up next to your listing, and if you've listed with gallery, the picture you've listed with gallery will show up correctly.

For instance, I rarely have an item picture at the bottom of my listings. I have a standard image at the end of every auction -- same one for each auction. Just have to be sure and list the correct individual pic in the Gallery URL box when filling out the listing form.

OK i think i understand what your saying ?? I took an old AW listing and relisted it and added the photo to the gallery . when i went to the spot you are speaking of (pictue URL) AW had a gif image in that spot...try relisting a AW auction out side of AW and you will see what i mean...could you explain more about what you are saying because i want my auctions to look nice and i really do not like adding the photo to the bottom!!!!!

And what the heck is auction watch doing with the gif in there ??? i thought we were not aloud gifs???

Well, I host my pics at my ISP with the free space that comes with my internet connection, so don't know if AW would be different.

Here's the scoop:

There is a box on the eBay listing page that is labelled "PICTURE URL" -- if you put anything in that box, a camera icon will show on your listing. You can link to a picture of your cat if you want, whatever.

Further down, there is a box labelled GALLERY -- you fill out the URL for that pic, and that's what eBay uses to make the gallery image with. It can be a different URL than the one for "PICTURE". -- If you leave the GALLERY URL box empty eBay automatically uses the same picture as the one listed in the "PICTURE" URL box -- then your cat gets its 15 minutes of fame.

Those of you who use AW might know how this transles. I''ve never paid anyone to host pictures for me, so I'm clueless on that front!

That's were we differ in idea's...I have done what you are saying in the past exactly the way you are saying it ..But all to often an image would show up in the gallery in the search for a word but not in the search for a catagory. So what you are telling me is right but if you want your products in both the catagory gallery and the word search gallery . Then you have to add your photo to both the gallery photo and the ebay photo area..

I know it sounds silly but try this one time ...right after you list an item and you go to see if it is listed . When it is go to the catalgory it is listed in and try to find it in the catagory preview...you will get a big surprise !!!

Hi eastwest -- sorry, I've been gone all afternoon. I have a strange feeling I didn't really understand the whole thing about Category Gallery and Search Gallery -- I'm going to check it out on my current auctions and see if I understand. Thanks for persisting on this thread, 'cause if I'm losing some exposure, that's not good!

eastwest --

OK, I think I'm having a different experience than what you outlined. Here's the scoop:

I have an item listed wherein the "Pic" at the end of my auction is a Seattle ferry boat (my personal logo, if you will). My gallery image for that auction is a Stangl dinner plate.

Now -- I went to the Stangl category, and ran a search from the category-specific search box, then when the results came up I clicked on All Items Including Gallery -- yep, there was my item, with it's little picture. Then I clicked on the tab for Gallery Items Only -- Yep there it was again. Cool!

Next! I went to the regular eBay search page, using the standard link at the top of the page. Searched for my item using key words. Same thing, the item shows with the gallery picture in the appropriate place.

So, I think I'm not totally clear on what problem you were having originally! Hmmmmm.

Sounds to me like your problem has been with AW, not with eBay.

I have listed hundreds of items with the Gallery feature, and never listed them the way you suggest.

I use the same small pic to trigger the camera icon on each & every auction I list, and my Gallery items always show up on the category listings, as well as the Search feature.

I thought maybe your right red deer but out of 100 auction only 20% are still AW auctions the rest are made threw my templates. Do you remember the thread i made a week ago and the link you gave to look up a product and see what pages it fell on in the CATAGORY SECTION AND WORD SEARCH. Well the funny thing is i looked up the auction i spoke about after you gave that link. You were right it did not show up as a gallery item. But when you did a word search it did. This is what i think is happening.

When you creat your own template Ebay's system scans the html to place the picture in the gallery catagory search. Maybe it's having problems with the html in the template to read the picture inside the template. There has to be some kind of glich happening , my reason for that would be because of the way ebay replyed to me, to tell me to add the photo to the bottom of the auction. With there service they provide. I sure wish i could find the letter they gave me , but somthing i forgot to say . They basically told me this would not happen if i used IPEX. Now they may want to be promoting there service and i think that might be the case. But if there is problems with the html and the gallery search is not pick up the picture in the template, this would explain why it works when you add the photo to the bottom

One last thing i forgot to say..This does not happen to all auctions of mine. Some auctions list fine. It varies..so please do not think it was all my auctions. As red deer had said to me before , "it is happening to some people with SOME of there auctions"
