I think I got some kind of virus today but my virus program cannot find anything, and when I log on mcaffee to do a online scan it will not let me. Here is what happened, I checked my email and then I noticed at the top of my screen along the tool bar the numbers 6 6 6 , and every email I clicked on erased, But after I run my virus programs the emails were back and the numbers were gone, Does anyone have any idea what happened or if this is a virus what kind it is? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Sounds like your using Outlook Express. If not go to Netscape Housecall and run it. Otherwise try ZDNet.com for some info on viruses. Update your virus program while you're there.

I do use outlook express, I have updated my virus program and it cannot find anything. I am not using a Mac. Is it possible to have a virus that can hide and not be found. Right now I do not want to email any of my auction winners I do not want to give them a virus. Do you think it is safe for me to email other people or just wait until I can get on a different computer to send them there winning info? Thanks Again!!

Hello akt. All anti-virus programs are not equal and it's possible something can slip through one of them. I would recommend going to Micro Trend's site and use their free online anti-virus scanner, Housecall, before you do anything else. Here's the URL:
http://housecall.antivirus.com/
The other thing I suggest is to go to the LavaSoft site and download their free spyware detection and removal program called AdAware. Here is the URL:
http://www.lavasoft.de/aaw/index.html
This is a small, stand alone program that doesn't take up any resources and is a tool everyone should have on their system anyway. Just download the most recent version.
I recommend using the Housecall online anti-virus scanner first and then downloading the AdAware program. I hope you find out what's causing your problem.

I tried housecalls and it did not find anything, All the programs I have tried have not found a virus. But my computer has been acting crazy all day, sometimes it will just go to a solid white screen and hang. Is it possible to have a virus and the virus programs not find it? Even though they are updated?
