I've always assumed that that happens when one particular site is overloaded or something, that you get shuttled to a different server maybe.

Yeah, I hate that aol page with the pukey green colors! I agree that it is an alternative when the site is particularly busy that allows you on the site anyway.

If I get one of those pages, I use the back button on my browser and try hitting another link to eventually get to where I want.
The main thing I HATE about those pages is that for my "favorite searches" I depend on knowing where I left off searching the last time (when you click on an auction, the title remains a different color so you can see what you have already looked at). These darn AOL pages wipe that out so all the titles are back to the "unclicked" color!

Any grown person who still subscribes to AOL after getting more than 2 weeks of internet experience under their belt, is a fool.
Geeez, be bold, use some initiative; FIND an ISP that actually offers good service without all the BS, ala AOL.

I don't wanna grow up, I'm a Toys R US kid.........
...we've AOL users since you got 20 hours & paid for the rest! (5 years or so) Little problems here & there, but for the most part it has been fine. I've tried other ISPs on others computers and have seen no difference.
I believe the main reason that you hear of so many AOL complaints is because there are so many millions of AOL users!
Anyway, I can live with a little 'bump' now and then, in fact sometimes it much welcomed!
Call me a 'fool' if you like, I've been called far worse as has everyone else.

hmm, i've never had that happen. no clue why i've been so fortunate, but i ain't complaining!
i've had aol for 5 years, isp for 4 of those years, and tcp into aol. the reasons i've kept aol:
1. the 'members helping members' boards (or whatever they're called now). VERY good info there, and a lot of it is not just aol-related. at least this is true on the mac side.
2. i like knowing i have backup just in case my isp goes down and i *must* get an email out.
3. if i've emailed an aol member from my aol account, it's nice to be able to check and see if they've read the mail or not, so i don't worry the person is dead or something

K3 has hit on one of the finer AOL perks.......being able to tell if and when your email was read by another AOL member!
I'm pretty sure everyone on AOL has had someone say that they never got an email, or say that they just read it, only you know better. The 'rookie' AOLr's don't know that email status can be checked by the sender!
We had a bidder not respond to the first two emails of notification. The first was read, the second was deleted. The 3rd that I sent had something to the tune of "Email deleted, ebay notified" in the subject line. I was emailed withing a day and the excuse was one of the kids must have done it.

Any grown person who berates other posters to make themselves feel better apparently has one of their inventory items misplaced. Perhaps you left one of your black 10 inch studded dildos on your chair and forgot to look before sitting down.

Hi Ziggy!
I use AOL, I have my eBay bookmarked. No problems and it's been two years! I don't sign in unless I need to transact ~ maybe that's why it hasn't effected me?
(BTW, ladyfargo, back off AOL users and lose the attitude, okay?)
I would agree that it's probably an internal server switch to prevent the dreaded crash. Does it happen a lot?
Maybe you didn't have enough coffee Mud
PIMP!!!
Well put! (no pun intended!)
