I am beginning to associate this famous phrase (actually it was "All your base are belong to us" from a silly game with the clarity with which eBay is explaining its new "Links Policy". Here's a posting from another board (on eBay) that was supposed to help clarify it further, for your reading pleasure.

Hi folks,

It's been a long day, and I'm leaving soon, but I wanted to make sure you got the information that I JUST received regarding our Links Policies questions. This information will be posted to the Announcement Board soon, but I've been given permission to share it with you early.

First--one of the biggest issues has an answer I think you will all appreciate: The policy makers have listened to the community, and an email link will also be allowed from the View Item page.

Here are some more questions that were raised and their answers:

View Item Page

1. May I link to organizations that I am a member of off the View Item page, such as the Better Business Bureau, OAUA, or Squaretrade?

Yes. You may link to organizations that help potential buyers assess your ability as a seller and that provide a service to you. The primary point of the link is to inform users of the service and they must abide by all the other links policy guidelines.

2. May I link to charity auctions that I support off the View Item Page?

No. You may only link to your own eBay or Half.com listings from any of your View Item pages. You may link to charity auctions that you support from your About Me page.

3. May I link to other pages that I have developed from the View Item page, such as pages with information for new eBay Users?

No. You may only link to your own eBay or Half.com listings from any of your View Item pages. You may link to informational or help pages that you or others have developed from your About Me page.

4. May I embed an image of my URL in my photos on my View Item page?

No. URL's are not allowed on the he View Item page. if you are embedding the watermark in order to defer others from taking and using your image, you may include you User ID.

5. May I link to multiple images of my item from the View Item page?

Yes. The image page may contain discrete links to other pages that offer items for sale outside of eBay, but may not contain descriptions of or links to individual items on other sites.

6. May I link to a gallery of my eBay items from the View Item page?

Yes. The gallery page may also contain discrete links to other pages that offer items for sale outside of eBay, but may not contain descriptions of or links to individual items on other sites.

About Me Pages

1. May I link to other users listings or About Me pages from my About Me page?

Yes, you may generally link to any page off the About Me page, however, the following are not allowed:

Links that directly offer any non-eBay listing or merchandise on the About Me page itself

Links to other online trading sites or pages, including auctions and fixed-price formats

Links to sites offering the same merchandise for the same or lower price (including the Buy It Now price)

Links to sites offering merchandise not permitted on eBay
2. May I promote my About Me page or links I have on my About Me page on the View Item Page?

You may include one link to your About Me page in your listings. This link is in addition to the About Me icon provided in your eBay listing by eBay. However you may not include language within that link that promotes items.

I'm leaving for the night, but I hope this is helpful. I know managment's been listening to the community on this issue very carefully, and we appreciate your thoughtful responses and questions/concerns.

I'll be back tomorrow.... until then, have a great evening.
