Well darns it. I have a single lot of three different items at auction right now and I was notified a couple of days ago by someone that one of the items was actually something else.

I asked them to clarify and they did, so after much research on my part and theirs we both came to the conclusion that I goofed!

So what I did was add the information to the auction and emailed everyone that has bid so far as to the mistake.

Do you think this is enough or should I have cancelled all the bids and relisted. The auction is supposed to end today and was originally a 7 day auction. I'm afraid I'll piss off people who have it on the watch feature if I cancel it, but at the same time, if someone does have it on their watch list and doesn't see my addition and bids anyway thinking it's the thing I thought it was, what a MESS!!!!!

What would ya'll do?

i think that (ethically), you did great. HOWEVER, there are too many idiots that would claim they never got your email, etc. blah blah blah
so, unfortunately the best solution would have been to cancel the listing and start over.\

Well since I now have a mess on my hands anyway and I also think that if I try to cancel now, it'll just confuse everybody more, I think that when I email the high bidder, I will reiterate what I posted in the auction and if it is someone I emailed I'll make sure they acknowledge they received said email before we complete the deal. Hopefully that will stop anymore problems from occuring after the sale.

You placed items A, B, & C up for auction. It rec'd bids. You find out you actually have A, B, & D.

IMO, your only option is to cancel the bids and start anew. Folks have already bid on these items.

I think adding to the item description would only be appropriate if there were no bids.

I know I would not be upset if my bid was cancelled, followed by a factual e-mail. If I was still interested in the product, I would bid on the new lot.

How can you know that anyone who's already bid won't have computer problems or go on vacation? They may end up being high bidder on different items than they thought they were bidding on.

deuce:

This particular lot has a reserve that has not been met yet, so I figured so far noone has been hurt by my mistake.

If someone bids on it that has already bid before I plan on emailing them and making sure they saw my addition.

I know once I've bid on something I don't generally check the auction again, I just go down to the bidding section right away to bid again if I want to.

As the eBay policy states regarding bid retractions, the bidder has the option of retracting his/her bid if the seller makes a major change to the description. If the bidder chooses to not retract, they are legally binding themselves to the auction AT THE CLOSE OF THE AUCTION, not at the time they bid on it.

I think you did a great job! Since reserve isn't met yet, you're certainly in no danger at this moment. If the bids go above reserve, and the winner is someone who received your update-email note, you can always ask them (when the auction ends) to verify that they did indeed receive your earlier email and understood the situation when they placed their winning bid.

If the winner is a new bidder, everything's moot. Cool

I listed a item wrong once Listed as software rev 3.1 it was actually 3.0

I found my mistake early on but there were already bids.

I added to my item descrecpion in headline 1 font color red . put in the correct rev. number
I e-maield each buyer as the action progressed told them of the diffence

At the auctions end I pointed out the descrepency to the high bidder evan though I had already emailed him of the problem 3 days earlier
He said he never got the email..never saw the addtion to the ad ...didnt want the item!!
So I had to relist anyway.

Cancel it now list it correctly and save yourself the hassel.

Don't forget those people who use snipe tools many times I'll put the snipe bid in several days before it ends and don't think about it until I read EOA notice.
