Is it just me or are people using the....
"I have placed a modest reserve to protect my investment"
....clause more than ever??? I have run into that statement about 10 times in the last 2 days!
Now I know, you know and pretty much everybody else knows that lots of people do this ebay thing as a business, but do people really need to use that wording? I figure that the reserve pretty much says that all by itself. To me, a reserve tells me that the seller isn't going to give the item away.
By putting the "Protect my investment" part says 'Look, I bought this to resell and no way in heck I'm taking less than 4 times what I paid for it!'
As you can see I'm not a big fan of reserves although I do use them once in a while. I like starting an item out at a fair price and letting it go.
But that's just me and I'm probably wrong...........

This phrase (and reserves) seems to become more popular when eBay has been having "functionality" difficulties. Maybe last week's problems have prompted this.
